Did a fun ride yesterday, came back ecstatic mainly because I didn't get tanked once (fantastic for us) even when a friend needed us to stay back while she jumped (yes we span in circles and bounced and generally objected strongly but we didn't p|ss off) BUT also I started off wobbly (as usual) but then got braver and...jumped loads of stuff, spooky stuff, big stuff (one massive gate was at least 2ft 9 and a couple of other fences I remember being in the air for aaaages!). At one point I even gave a friend a lead over a double!!!
It also helped loads that he wasn't tanking me, so I was actually able to get him to the jumps, which is often a problem for me!
Anyway still not out of the woods, was having to wrestle with my mind all the way (I am just not used to this positive thinking yet). I find myself looking at jumps from a distance and thinking how big? How wide? When in fact I just need to go for it - there is nothing THAT big on a fun ride, and also he proved his worth yesterday when he jumped a brush fence over the brush, without going through it - I can remember wondering if we were ever going to hit the ground again! It felt massive! And he thoroughly enjoyed it too, he does when his mum relaxes and lets him do it, he loves it. So proud of him I could pop.

YAY, what a huuge improvement! Thats fantastic news, lets hope you can keep on going out, having fun and learning together. Times like that make all the mind-twisting difficult desisions and tears completely worth while!

You are so right kpick, when it all comes together like that it's just amazing. I need to keep at this jumping lark now because we are really getting it together. Unfortunately couldn't get transport to the hunter trial this weekend but no matter, we are at another fun ride and also a riding club XC clinic the weekend after, and of course we have our own XC fields so I will make sure I am popping things every time I ride through there. I am starting to see jumps and feel excited, rather than sick. I am starting to get the odd glimpse of how it used to feel when I was a kid and wanted to jump everything in sight! I have turned jumps into demons but am slowly turning them back into what they really are...something that can make you and your horse feel like you can fly. My mind can still run away with me but I am getting better at stopping it. Your advice was the best - even just saying, in my head or out loud, "that's easy, we can easy jump that" really helps me.

Gosh! How brave are you?? Well done! When your lack of confidence disappears is when you start having fun!

Great stuff Cesca. You have great nerve as far as I am concerned. I know the nerves are there, but you are far and away in the advanced wobblers compared to most of us!
