that sounds excellent! so pleased for you! do you need 'follow-up' sessions or does he leave you with exercises to keep doing (like a confidence fitness regime - ) off to browse website, probably too far, no one likes travelling over the severn bridge.....

Sorry for delay kids not well , But i did manage a hack out with the yard owner on Saturday ;D. I was very calm, no nerves at all. On the way to the yard I approached a blind corner in my Shogun and a speeding foreign lorry came the other way. I stopped straight away and the lorry just managed to avoid me, I reversed and let him pass, usually I would be a bag of nerves and a little voice did creep in with "What if I was on my horse" but i thought I would of heard the lorry and got in close to the hedge! I got on Stafford outside on the road, no nerves here, usually I would be thinking "What if I put my foot in the stirrup and a tractor comes and Stafford bolts off dragging me down the lane!" I kept repeating " Bovvered". We set off and I really enjoyed the feeling. We were in a small lane happily chatting and Sue asked If i had heard the tractor we were approaching, I had heard it but not acknowledged it at all! It was working in a field spraying. Sue has spotted it ages before and said it must be working as usually I would be in a flap and worrying about where I could hide or could we avoid it! We passed quite close to it and Stafford was fine, very chilled, it was close enough to bother me before and Stafford would of picked up on it. Then we were going down a small hill, on the other side of the hedge were some new calves, snorting and running around, Stafford sensed them and froze, I thought "Oh $h!t" but then I relaxed my shoulders started breathing, repeated "bovvered" and imagined my garden. Stafford went past very relaxed. The other horse we were hacking out with is a really spirited chestnut mare, who bucks and prances, canters on the spot, she was very relaxed and Sue was surprised, I told her it was my calmness working on her aswell! Before I would of avoided going out with a horse like this because I thought she would wind Staff up, when we trotted up the hill, Sue cantered Charlie on the grass verge and went on ahead, Stafford was a star and behaved perfectly. I was tempted to canter on the grass verge but thought I would leave that for the next hack. Although we didn't pass a tractor or lorry in the lane, I felt very relaxed and in control, I had a brilliant first hack out and can't wait to go again! So A BIG THANK YOU to Derek Will let you know how it keeps going

My fear ?!?
Hmm, well ........
I guess at the very centre of it all is a fear of falling off. Which might sound a bit daft - don't we all worry about that ?!? But its more of a fear of falling off when cantering Skotti. I can canter & jump anyone elses horse cept my own !! Other people have happily cantered Skotti on hacks. And i'll happily canter on Skotti in a school. But not outside of one. He's a bit of a Ferrari (or as a friend put it like the Skoda that won the Motocross GP !) I have done it a couple of times & once in competition but i was so scared that i can't really call them positive experiences.
So hopefully Derek will be able to help me out a bit with that.
I'll let you know how it goes
Emma S ;D
