I seem to be walking about constantly looking at everything that I believe is 2'6" and thinking "could I jump that?". My work desk is about that I think and very W I D E so I am just hoping that nothing the size of it turns up at the hunter trial on Sunday!!! I keep imagining it in the middle of a field...all big and solid and part of my course...! Anyway jumping lesson tonight after work. I am actually excited nervous (as opposed to sick and want to die nervous) which is good. Am refusing to entertain negative thoughts and instead anticipating it as FUN. Will of course let you all know how we go

Now Cesca, we need you to get some other activities, other than work and horses! Have a great time tonight and keep the pressure off.... fun, fun, fun. This is an expensive hobby if we don't enjoy it!

If you stand on a chair and look at it, it wont seen so high!. Remember you will be higher up on horsey's back! Then you will be looking down and you'll think 'oh thats not so bad'. I think you are v brave. xx

Chaaange your way of thinking completely. which isnt easy i know. Look at it and think 'I can do that, thats not big' and make yourself believe it isnt big at all. If you think about it, unless a fence is VERY wide, horses dont stretch much to jump spreads anyway, because the Flight Phase is the largest amount of time used while jumping a fence. Horses take off and Land quite far away from Single barred fences, so a spread shouldnt cause too much trouble unless you let it.

Hey guys, well thanks for all advice - we jumped a 2'6" FOUR FOOT WIDE (first pole on ground) jump and a double with the second fence a 2'9" upright (tried initially to jump it as two 2'9" uprights but I kept running out at the second and then started freaking out and acting like a loony). Feel loads better about my boy's ability which is good. Not overly pleased with my behaviour at one point but I suppose it's going to take me time to talk myself down off the ledge so am trying not to be too hard on myself. Very pleased with my boy and improved my position too. One last practice on the xc course at home on Saturday (friend is going to take photos which is lovely of her) and then real thing on Sunday. Instructor said be pleased with whatever you get which I will try and do. Part of me still feels like crying though and I have no idea what for! I am mental. Positive thinks all round methinks. I think I understand your advice better now kpick - no negative thoughts allowed at all, not at any time. That will be hard but if it gets me where I want to be I'm going to give it a darn good shot xxx
