Julz I am not really brave, with kpick's help I'm starting to change my mindset so I'm not utterly petrified...being brave is still going ahead and doing it when I want to die of fright! If you want to have a go at XC then you do it! You should definitely have a go because it is SO much fun, and if I can do it then really, ANYONE can. This time last year I did not jump, full stop. Nothing, not ever. I can remember a fallen tree in a wood we go in loads that was about 1ft off the ground and it terrified me - for ages I walked over it, then I jumped it a few times with a reliable lead, and eventually I can remember jumping it out hacking on my own once or twice. But I was still terrified, it was such a big deal and I felt so silly. I knew I'd blown the whole thing out of all proportion and didn't know how to get it back. So to think that a year later I'm able to even ENTER a hunter trial is amazing, let alone turn up at it and go round! I am not out of the woods by a long way but I do believe I've found the path. Hee hee amarche we did actually jump something which was WIDER than my desk (though round so not so bad) and nearly as high. But I made darn sure I didn't think of my desk as I approached, I just kept thinking "this is really inviting, this will be really nice to jump" and we did it first time

And just to prove it (to myself more than anyone else I think!), pics my lovely friend took: Terribly scary bright blue thing with yellow flowers in it, and only fence 3! Had a stop at this but did it second time Second element of double in trees that got us eliminated - probably my fault as it was so w i d e (you can see where the front rail is if you look) I was really wary of it. But when we did do it, he jumped it beautifully: Crazy weird line of giant toadstools with gnomes in the middle of them(!!!) - jumped first time Just coming out of the owlhole (this was horrible, out of a wood, and big, neither of us liked it! So I whipped him in behind a girl that came flying through after us and used her as a lead ). Not a jumping one but I love this photo! And...it's MY DESK! Except darker brown, rounder and more xc jump-like... Last jump, jumped it first time Proud mummy!!! Hope you like them and there aren't too many!

Patronising? PATRONISING?? OMG amarche no way I love you! You have a friend for life here now!!! Hee hee yeah desks would be far better off in the middle of xc courses (but we wouldn't get much done I don't think!). We didn't look very pro at all to be honest, but I don't care, the important thing is we're getting over them - style can come later.
Oh blimey yeah Julz the last thing I should be doing is encouraging you to go out and ravage that hip of yours!!!! Apols for forgetting, however as soon as it is safe and sensible to do so, you must give it a go, you will have all our backing.

Thanks so much guys, has been great knowing I've had backing. Not out of the woods yet, it's still a constant, conscious effort to keep those demons at bay. Hey kpick I will be at the next one in two weeks' time hopefully! (Transport not sorted yet but working on it.) You helped sooo much in making this a pleasant experience for me (and not the sheer Hell I usually turn it into) and I am really really grateful, please keep visiting this bit of the board and helping others on here, particularly those of us with jumping demons as your advice is just spot on thank you xxx

wow.............amazing photgraphs. you should be so proud of yourself. i hate myself sometimes regarding my lack of confidence with xc jumps. i know my horse could do them easily, but i cant help worrying that she'll get hurt (not bothered about me!!!) im too overprotective and should kick myself up the ass and go for it!! those fences you jumped are mahoosive!!!!! so brave!!!
frank...........well done matey. keep at it!!!
