Careful though,. some places, if you don't jump every fence in the course then you get asked to leave...so jsut check that out When ig et that feeling in my stomach, i tell myself it's excitement, because it does feel the same, nerves and excitement. Have a fantastic time! can't wait to hear about it! ;D ;D ;D

Hi guys, well it's TOMORROW! But all is good. I had a lesson today and he went just amazingly, really really brilliantly, and we both had loads of fun. Lost him a few times in his excitement (i.e. few runouts then impromptu blasts across fields, my fault for letting him get too fast) but I was still ecstatically pleased with him, he didn't once take the opportunity to bolt and his jumping was SPOT on. Regardless of what happens tomorrow, I will be so pleased that the HT caused us to have that lesson! Have walked the course and listened carefully to my instructor's advice. Bizarrely I feel beautifully calm, yes some are big and some are very challenging, but there is nothing there that will stop me from sleeping like a baby tonight. I am resolved to be pleased with whatever I get; if he runs off, I'll just bring him back and make him jump something. If he naps I'll just be patient and make him jump something. If we can only manage to jump a couple of jumps, I will make sure we end on a GOOD note and take it as a positive that we know what we need to work on. I am as well prepared as I can be, I know the course off by heart in my head (so no surprises to throw me). All my stuff is ready to go so in the morning just a quick muck out is required! I also have plenty of time once I get there because two of my friends' times are an hour before mine. Thanks so much for the advice, Hannah lovely idea - I am going to make sure I chatter to him, and I think it will help me to say "and now over this, and now over that" - it will remind me that we're making progress! And Miranda don't worry, I got eliminated at fence 3 in the pairs at this venue two years ago so I know for definite they let you continue if you miss out jumps! It's a very good idea to think of your butterflies as pleasant excitement. In fact mine are this time! And kpick I think that perhaps I am in such good shape this evening because of your "think positive" advice. Thank you all! And naturally I shall update you all tomorrow xxx

Yay, we did it! Got eliminated at fence 4 (ahem), a pretty challenging double in some trees, each on an angle to the other so a bit tecknickle for little ole me, which meant we weren't allowed to do the timed section (boo) BUT we did EVERY OTHER JUMP and I am so pleased with him. We had quite a few refusals (him having a look, me being a bit of a t|t) but each time I whipped him round in a small circle he jumped them fine. He was in a snaffle, didn't bolt, neighed his head off to his absent mates the whole time, but still listened to me and was basically a very very good boy. I even did one jump with one stirrup, just kicked on and didn't pull him up for it! I am just ecstatic, sure we were a million miles off going clear BUT I think we both learned loads and - the best thing - I can't wait for the next one to practise what I've learned. So proud of my grown up special boy I could pop

Aw thanks guys! Yes another thing I'm so pleased about is that I'm not beating myself up for getting eliminated etc. etc. It was our first time, to be fair I couldn't be sure what we'd do - but now we've done it I know so much more. And I think we did really really well! He only stopped because he was LOOKING at things so much - and the second half of the course was bigger, but less spooky stuff - and we flew over all that first time. So I don't think it will be long before we are both much more confident. I was also reluctant to let him really bowl along, because once he gets going I can't always steer him towards the jumps! So that probably had an effect too, as we trotted a lot of the way. Add that to him screaming his head off for his mates the whole way...he had a lot to contend with, he's never been asked to do anything like that before, and so I am dead proud of him and our relationship.
And and and...I got home and got straight on the net to look for more - and am currently arranging transport for another one in two weeks' time! Who would ever have thought I'd be doing that??! It's brilliant! Also got a fun ride this Sunday so am looking forward to practising there.
Kpick thank you for the "lovely mummy" comment, I am not sure he would agree with you when I am a crying mess on his back in the middle of a jumping lesson! But hopefully that will happen less and less now I seem to have got a handle on my negative thinking. You are so so right about that - just don't let those thoughts happen. Thinking of all the negative possibilities will not prevent them from happening so what is the point? Best advice I've had all year that!

And there's me getting all excited for you.....only to find i'm too late, and have missed it.....Well Done!!!! You are far braver than me...you wouldn't get me jumping them, though deep down I'd like to have a go at some xc jumps...not a full course though!
It's nice to see photo's of yourself and to realise that you were smiling in them, just shows how relaxed you were and concentrating on the "now" and not on the "what if's".....
absolutely brilliant cesca!!!
