We had a really relaxed and positive night tonight. Last night was a bit of a downer and i got myself really frustrated, and i blamed Tawny, even though it was me who was not focused and not thinking properly. So i went home last night feeling low and sorry, even though i had made it up to Tawn for calling him useless etc. I decide tonight was going to be positive and pleasant. I decided that i was not going in the school, i always go in the school. I would go round the field. I made sure the gate was open and that i had everything ready. I groomed, tacked up and off we went. Only a few butterflies, but we went round twice, near the busy main road and flapping birdies going up to roost. We only walked but we did it, All by ourselves, with no fuss, no panic and no problem. Just relaxing nice amble. I am really chuffed and i am sure Tawn enjoyed a leisurely stroll. Only a small thing but i am pleased, another small obstacle passed.

Now you can go to bed, relaxed, happy, knowing you gave everything you had to yourself and your horse. Doing something different that you were'nt even comfortable with, that took great guts. Well done and looking forward to all the great rides and reports to follow.

Well done Nic! It's such a great feeling.
Like you, Davie & I did a 75 min walking road hack on our own this morning with only one spin-and-run (!). He stopped for a good look at a few other things but was an absolute star generally speaking. Before I went on hols at the beg of March we had a couple of cr*ppy hacking attempts which resulted in me dismounting and taking him walkies. It's not the spooking which "scares" me but the thought of coming off on the road, both in terms of injury and what would happen to Davie.
Someone posted yesterday "Am I bovvered?" and I have to say I used that a lot - when I felt Davie tense I just said out loud to him "Come on, are we bovvered? No, we're NOT bovvered!". Then I had an image in my head of just what someone would think if they could hear/see us, that made me laugh and relax and generally seemed to help too. I highly recommend it!

Actually it would sound really funny i anyone could hear me, i chat to Tawn all the way round. Tawny is really good to hack out, it is just my nerves that stop me. I have no one to hack with and all our rides have a huge amount of roadwork in them.Traffic really worries me, as in all the "what ifs". But we are getting there. I am seriously looking for somewhere closer to home to keep the boys and somewhere with some safer hacking. Winding country lanes are lovely but not with so many boy racers about. Thanks guys for all your support onwards and upwards they say.

Nic that sounds like a really perfect ride out to me hun - well done to you and Tawny. Walking around at peace with the world and each other, just chilling - what absolute and utter bliss. I know just what you mean about winding country lanes and boy racers, that is what keeps me off the roads TBH. It's a shame we don't live nearer to each other, I would love to hack out with you and Tawny. Have a great riding weekend xx
