As Bobby is unfortunately currently not sound my lesson today was on Clover instead. In a lot of ways it was good that it was, as I have absolutely no nerves riding her whatsoever. She is an absolute star, and I know Bobby will be one day too. We worked in walk and then trot - much to my surprise as thought this lesson might be walk only. Need to work on several things, mainly rolling my thighs forwards more but having lower leg slightly more back to get a "kneeling" feeling. (It does feel weird, especially in trot I have to say)! And also had to ride with more contact. I thought it felt like way too much contact, as I ride with washing line reins and open fingers, but was assured it wasn't. Clover certainly responded pretty well. My little polo pony will be a dressage star at this rate! That's it really! Just wanted to report a very happy, chilled, interesting ride today. Bobby had his Bowen treatment this afternoon, so fingers crossed I can start riding him again really soon...

Thanks very much Pebbles Girl. It felt more pronounced on Clover than it did on Negrito or Toby 2 for some reason - maybe because I have got into bad habits on my girl! But really enjoyed the lesson. Bobby was very chilled after his treatment with his Aunty Chrissie - fingers crossed it's done the trick and he'll be sound in a day or two.
Hope Pebbles is settling well xx

It certainly felt like kneeling to me at first. Very odd but now feels perfectly normal. I did a bit of a demo on my favourite one to ride, Gany, today when teaching a half day clinic. I haven't tried doing that before and even did a demo of rising trot without stirrups. Julia and Nicky have both been working on getting me to have less weight in the stirrup. Was relieved to find I could do rising trot quite easily without stirrups and still keep my lower leg still! Could have gone horribly wrong!

How fab is that casper!! i love my RWYM lessons it is such an achievement to feel everything coming together. thats how i feel after my lessons. Have to agree it does feel very strange to have your legs further back and your thigh rolled on. But you do get used to it and after some practise you do it naturally, although i do sometimes lose it when trotting , bt i can tell when as my legs moves. Glad you are enjoying the lessons and that clover responded well. Isn't it lovely when thay start going really well because of sometimes very small changes. Also know what you mean about contact. As Becky says to me "what contact" i also have washing lines!!! Anyway keep parctising your doing really well, good vibes to Bobby.
Nic x

Hi Casper, you know how I feel about my RWYM lessons been a turning point for me and confidence. I gather your trainers hasn't had you doing the practice in front of a mirror to work on that rise and fall so you will learn to not rise with feet in stirrups! me I used to practice at work in the disabled loo as the mirror is low and I could do it. I had to do this kneeling on the ground plus doing it at home! hilarious ! ask June when you see her next, Firefly has also been doing this practice I believe. Yes the feel is very strange at first and needs your body to be re-educated, but now it seems normal and to trot any other way is not normal any more. Plus I felt as if I was going to fall off the front of the saddle at 1st which I wasn't I was actually rising correct and in-alignment.
But the more you do it the more stable you become. I bet Clovers has a lovely trot to help you. So practice and practice and it will come to you.
What is wrong with Bobby? hope Bowen helped him.
Pebblesgirl? you think Ambar is wide! ( not sure I recall you sitting on her) I think June finds her positively narrow on comparison to Flynny boy!
