I love your "Am I Bovvered" catchphrase! And wow, what an absolutely stunning horse, he really does have amazing presence doesn't he. I would need a winch to get on I think. And actually probably a ladder to dismount too... Sounds like the two of you are really progressing, well done both of you.

Thankyou everyone, he is a very special horse. I get on him from a wall, I hope to one day mount from the ground when I get fitter after having a baby, but I would only do it in an emergency, I don;t think it would do his back any good! Getting off is getting better, I only have problems when I change to a smaller horse, when I jump off the ground hits me too quick ;D It's great for being nosey over hedges ;D

Staffsmum, thanks for this thread! I took my 4-ish yr old on a 75 min hack on some quiet roads today on our own. Recently hacks have not been too successful - he spooks and spins, I get the jitters (all what-if's.......what if I fall on the road......what if he runs into traffic..etc etc.) and usually end up getting off and taking him walkies instead.
Don't get me wrong, I do quite enjoy that and also hope to long line him more but I've been getting disappointed and frustrated. So today I thought I'd try this new route which we'd done once in company a few weeks ago.
When I felt Davie tense I just said to him "Come on son, are we bovvered?......no, we're no bovvered at all are we?" Then it occured to me how ridiculous we must sound which made me laugh and relax even more. Result, a lovely hack with no major problems. So THANK YOU!!
