hello i really want to do a dressage show on my pony before we leave the area, as there is a yard that does dressage shows right across the road where we are now:D the only problem is that i am really nervous about what gift will be like with all the other horses around can anyone give me any tips on what to do if she does play up, and just generally give your views. i am also very happy because i hacked out with my sister last weekend and i braved the traffic and managed to have 2 good canters, even though gift was crabbing and pulling because she knew we were near home. so very pleased

Well done on the hacking!!
perhaps take him over (on foot if he's easier to handle that way) before you go for the competition - then you can see how he might react with other horses/show environment etc. Or perhaps take a tried and trusted friend with you, perhaps on the ground for some moral support, or on horse if you think that might help Gift.
Personally if she plays up then don't be a martyr, dont feel you have to battle, and certainly dont listen to half of the advice I'm sure you'll get at the time, trust your gut reaction at the time and go from there. If it means getting off then do that. if it means finding a quiet corner to practice some transitions/lateral work then do that too!
Good luck though - remember its meant to be an enjoyable experience!
