btw this is a fabby new forum ;D
Just wondered if it would be ok to compile a list of places/people who specialise in various forms of confidence training. not sure if we are allowed to say names though (can mods answer this for me?).
I would like to find an instructor who specialises in jumping but also in confidence training.

That would be a great idea amelia, finding a sympathetic RI who won't tell you to "just get on with it" could be a rare commodity tho

I really enjoy working with people who have lost their confidence. Rather than, as some instructors do, getting exasperated, I enjoy helping people take the steps they need to start enjoying their riding again. I teach one lovely lady who came to riding fairly late and inherited a lovely young Connemara. Last April she was too scared to even tack her pony up, but she is now handling him confidently and able to walk, trot and canter and is starting work with ground poles. The happiness she exudes when she is with her pony is wonderful. To me every bit as rewarding as working with a competitve rider who wants to climb the ladder.
I'm sure there must be a lot of other instructors like me out there, I hope you can all find the help you need.

I have to say despite my own lack of riding confidence I find as a freelance instructor I seem to get a good rapore going with nervous riders and I believe its because I understand what they are going through. I cover parts of Lincs/Cambs/Beds and Norfolky area's

well i was talking to my YO yesterday and something she said made me think. There are 2 sisters at the yard, both are lovely. They recently moved from another yard who's YO is quite a well known competition rider in the area. They both suffer majorly from lack of confidence. YO spoke to them and they both said the same thing - that when they used to have lessons with their old YO she used to constantly tell them how useless they were and even refused to teach one of them because she was supposedly rubbish So now when they get nervous they completely lose it, and yet the second they are encouraged and told that they can do it they are completely different riders. just shows what a bit of confidence can do - why do some instructors find it necessary to put people down so much? Surely as hazelhorse says it must be very rewarding helping nervous riders to get over there fears and reach their goals?

Have just attended a five day course with Nicole Golding and Adam Goodfellow. It was a fantastic course and very good for helping you have confidence. They are both very inspiring and I shall definitley be taking my horse again in the future! My horse and I had a fantastic time. xo Spacehorse
