SS3 will not be happy with you!! I know you are nervous, I still get the wobbles after all these years (have been known to dive for the loo at the worst poss moment) He is your horse and he trusts you, wether you show from the ground or on top he always will rely on you to help him through his showing carear. Have you got a friend with a nice steady horse that would let you do some inhand at some winter shows,? this would help with your nerves and give you some practise and experience, and this will help no end. Please dont send him to anyone else, or let anyone else show him, you have a bond with him now, and remember he will be as nervous as you! My filly will not trot out inhand for anyone but me, you may find Sparks the same. You wont let him down and at the end of the even the pros can make a hash of it!!! Now the tough talk..................... GET A GRIP GIRL, YOU CAN DO IT. PS If I can ,so can you.

lol!!!
But i really don't enjoy it - it's not just that i get nervous - i get nervous showjumping but i absolutely love the adrenalin rush asfterwards so it makes it worthwhile. Showing just leaves me feeling tired!!
SS3 walked him round for me before going in the ring at the Royal and he was 100% more relaxed with her.
I'm dubious about him being sent anywhere else as he likes his little routine and i don't want to upset him - i don't want him filled up with high concentrate feeds and not turned out for weeks on end - he's a baby afterall

I have the same problem as you Amelia. I have 2 yearling connie fillies that I've had a year. All through the summer I kept putting off showing them. I eventually plucked up the courage this month. I've now taken them to 2 shows. Only local ones I couldn't cope with big ones. I get really nervous but finding someone else to show them was a nightmare. I couldn't afford to send them away and like you didn't want to. I'm not experienced at showing and don't enjoy it but I just think of it as education for them. We don't go to win ( though I'd love to ) but I come home and feel like I've achieved something. Here we are at our first show on the 11th I'm on the right looking extremely nervous! Good luck in finding someone but if you can't take him in the ring yourself and enjoy yourself. i160.photobucket.com/albums/t192/ema_087/Pics131.jpg

Amelia, why did you jump in at the deep end? why dont you do some local shows with your sexy man, just to get the hang of things, enjoy it, you sound to me as though you are a tad overalled by the whole thing. Showing is surposed to be enjoyable, ok sometimes its more stressfull than we care to think about, its a pitty you are not closer to me, we have some brill local shows @ indoor centres. Next year join a local RC and go for a points win, who says he has to go to the Royal, do inhand youngstock, best conditioned, riding horse inhand, have some fun before the big time. You are going to have a life time with this horse, enjoy being and doing with him. And get someone to take you and then you can have a stiff drink before the class.

i find it boring though!! It's honestly dull compared to what i'm used to. Not interested in doing local stuff - it costs just as much to do as i still have to hire transport and the facilities etc aren't anywhere near as good. At least at County level you have stables to put ned in and loads of places to go and spend money!!!
I actually really love the atmosphere of the county shows and would love to go as owner just not going in the ring. I also think it's good for him to get used to such huge showgrounds at a young age.

She's back !!! Hi Amelia. If you don't want to show him -------------don't. There is no reason in the World why anyone should show, if they don't enoy it. You have achieved what you wanted to do, and what was good for him, and that was taking him to a couple of shows as a yearlng, and making it a fun experience for him. You don't have to take him out again now. He will not forget, and when he's under saddle, it will not be new to him. I really wish I could still show my youngsters if only once or twice. Rosie was the first one to not be shown until she went under saddle, and she had far more problems than the others, as everything was so new. The same will apply to Di Di. You won't have that problem now, so stop beating yourself up and do what you enjoy!

:-) you're right of course but i do enjoy being at the shows and preparing him for them in the weeks running up to it. I'm going to let him enjoy next summer out in the fields with his friends and concentrate on jumping Sunny (will up the thread from the comp i did with her so you can see - she was brilliant bless her!).
Might take him out when he's 3 - I think a lot of the tension i had was caused by my old YO being so overly competitive with me and making me feel like i didn't stand a chance because my horse wasn't by a top stallion and i hadn't spent a fortune buying him like she did with hers. Also didn't help that we were always late getting to the shows which added to the stress! New YO is so lovely and relaxed and has offered to take me to the local venues like SOE and Kent county.
