I have a 15 month old filly who i have been trying to get out all season to start her showing, but due to weather, foot and mouth, transport etc, we haven't gone anywhere. We got all dressed up on Sunday, to go to our 1st 'party', arrived at the showground to find this show had been cancelled aswell . I wasn't too disappointed as she stood like an angel to be washed and plaited, and also loaded and travelled very well, so was very pleased with her. Question is, she is entered in Melplash next Thursday to do the coloured youngstock class, have found out there is only 3 in her class but am worried for her 1st show going there could overface her ( melplash is an agriculture show ) she has a fantastic laid back temperament, and always takes everything in her stride but do you think i should really be taking her? Not sure if i should

Go for it Ash's first show, as a yearling, was the West Mid show - not exactly a small show! - and she was stabled next to a stallion all day. She was fine about it all, very laid back even when some carriages went past. With hindsight maybe I was a bit mad to take her (we came 7th out of about 10 so didn't come last anyway ) but it was a good experience for her. As long as you're sure your filly is calm and sensible, and she sounds very well behaved, I'd definitely go.

cons, its a big show. pros theres only three in the class so once in the ring that'll be easier for her.
ps; you can always pull out and take her home once shes there!
Daughter went to do clear round (ours fith time out) again and ended up having to compete, clear orund closed, came 4th. First two times made a complete fool of themselves, you can make mistakes and get over them.

Ditto Geeup, also it is good experience as you found at the cancelled one, just to have the getting ready and the journey. With a small class it will be lovely for her to experience it without the pressure of waiting around for a huge class load - and you know you will be placed!

Defo. Usually first show/hunt is brilliant cos they are in awe. it's the next few that may hold some surprises.
Years ago, i took a 4 year old autumn hunting and she was so good we got put on point duty. after that one time she was an absolute cow and i ended up never taking her again cos she blew her mind with it.
I'm sure you'll be fine hun. Go for it. It's not hunting and it will do her good to get out.
