Bonjour all, Just wondering what your thoughts are on using chalk? I have bought some but have never used it. My lad's white trotters (feet!) are pretty white as a rule but I wondered if it is worth enhancing them slightly? If so how would you do it with the chalk? He has a white star - would you dab a bit on there too? Any advice is gratefully received. Ta to all who reply...... S

You can mix the chalk with water and make it into a paste, try not to get it too stodgy as it wont go on very even. I wouldnt put any on his star as with being dark and it runs or doesnt go on properly it may be more hassle than it's worth!

Wonderful!!!
Is it best to do the day after a bath?!
Does it then dry and you brush it out?
I wont go near his face with it! Promise.

I would bath him, put the chalk on and if you can, bandage the leg the chalks on and brush it off the next morn...sparkly white legs!

I bath them the night before, and chalk in the morning. If the legs are wet when you apply it it can go streaky (but when this dries, you can give it a good rub with a towel and it evens up). Always apply your hoof oil after the chalk I wouldn't put any white on a star either, if it rains it runs!

We just use a chalk block before they go in the ring, and rub it in well then the exess just comes off as they walk. Wipe it off hooves as well

I bath then put the chalk on while the legs are still wet so it makes a paste . Cover up over night and lightly brush out in the morning.

My pony has a couple of white socks but the day when we bath we put daz on them (yes washing clothes thingy ) and then on the day when i am ready i will check if there is any dirt on. But My friend she has a colured horse and she uses the chalk on her legs (horse) when she baths just lightly then bandages them up and on the day when there at the show she will go over them again. She uses a paste but i wouldn't really use it on his face though..dont no what he might get up to....Sorry if i didn't help not very good at these thingsjust thought i would share some of my thoughts and knowlegde with you hehe

Toby has four white legs to his knees and if it's not a wet day (and I'm organised and have time!) then I use chalk.

Troy's only got up to his fetlocks but cos he is virtually black they stand out, so the whiter the better!
