Is anyone on this DG a member of Chiltern Distance Riders and planning on doing the Penn Ride on 29th July?
It's not a big ride, I think you can do either an 8 or a 12 mile loop.
If anyone's going, I'd love some company, as it looks like I'll be riding alone.

Would love to sam but no transport! I'm sure you will find someone once you're there to go with:-)

Hi Louise,
That's a shame about the transport. I would love to meet you and your chappie.
I've got no transport either, which is why this is the only ride I'm doing/have done this year. But the ride starts about 4 miles from where I keep my gang, so I'm going to ride there, do the ride, and hack back again. Unfortunately, none of the people who keep their horses near me are CDR members/aren't interested etc. etc.
I hope you're right and that I can find someone to tag along with, it'll be much more fun like that.

When I did the one at our local woods a few years ago now I was waiting for my friends to come back with their horses for a while - several people saw me alone and offered to escort me - they were very friendly:-)

me, me! I was also going to hack there as our lorry was sick, but now it has a new back axle. OH and I are def. going, it's only our 2nd ride (did Ashridge which was 16 miles but were very slow - bit of a biggie for our 1st). OH's horse will buck a bit but should be ok setting off together...but as we have heavier horses than you I expect you'll need to leave us behind at some point!

Hi Nich,
That would be brilliant! Would love to ride with you. Don't worry about me going off too fast, because Miri is a: quite inexperienced (don't worry, he's absolutely fine with other horses) and b: He's not nearly fit enough and far too fat (you should see the amount of grass we've got).
Curious to know where you're based if you were going to hack there too. Can't be that far from me. I live in Bourne End but the horses are in Forty Green (been there since end of March - so only just getting to know who keeps horses in that area).
Anyway, I sent my entry off yesterday, but I will e-mail Miranda, the organiser, and tell her that we would like to start at the same time. However, to do that I will need to know your name so that she can co-ordinate it. I am just about to PM you with my contact details - would you mind very much sending me yours?
I may not be able to reply until later this evening because I've got to go out and do some poo picking now - until dark (it hasn't been done for the past two evenings because I've been busy doing Bowen treatments) so I've got some catching up to do.
I'm really looking forward to meeting you and your OH, and thanks ever so much for offering the company!
Sam

have pm'd you Sam. we are opposite sides of Penn, so will be meeting in the middle! Now I'm worried I've over-exaggerated our slowness...hopefully will be ok and we can match speeds...;0)

Hi nic & Sam,
Do let me know in future when these rides are!?
I am at BCA on Sunday, but my and my pals love these type of rides. I grew up down the road from Penn and know most of the yards.
Sam are you just off that fork in the road that leads up to the old sort of windmill building? Are your horses kept in a barn with an outdoor school with lights just a short walk away? Think my friend came to look at this place when they had space a couple of years back.......

Sunshine, you have to be a member to join the rides. If you look at their website there's are details on how to join. Next ride is at Woburn on 2nd Sept so you have plenty of time.

Hi Sunshine,
You've almost got the right place. The "windmill" is actually an old granary and that's where I am. The yard with the outdoor school that you describe is immediately across the track from me.
Are you within hacking distance of there at all? If so, it would be great to meet up with you and ride out. I'm slowly getting to know a few of the horsey folk around here (there's horses tucked into every corner it seems!) but those with horses fit enough to ride currently seem to hack in the daytimes when I'm working. Sadly the people in the yard with the school opposite me have not got a fit horse between them (due to various unfortunate accidents and the like - certainly not a case of neglect or anything) so currently I have no-one to ride with.
What classes are you doing at BCA? Depending on what time I get back from the Penn ride I might just pop down there and have a look - and see if there's anyone there I know from where I used to keep my horses. Chances are, however, that I'll be too late or too knackered!
Anyway, it's getting late now. Hope to stay in touch. And maybe you, me, Nich and her OH (and perhaps even my OH when he and his youngster are ready) could all meet up at a future CDR ride.

My lad is stabled in Dorney, Burnham but if you wanted to meet up I could box over to you? If its easy to drive to, though I think the lanes are a bit wiggly and we have quite a big lorry?!
I am doing in hand veteran. Which should be in the afternoon, love to see you if you can make it.
Penn is a fab place to ride, do you go up the golf course? Are there still pigs at the top of Derehams Lane by the people that breed horses?
If I dont see you Sunday, hope to see you on a CDR ride.
