which classes would you concentrate on putting my mare in and which would you totally not bother with (through type colour etc etc). i would appreciate peoples views as ive sometimes, in the past , been bewildered in certain classes about her placement. 14.2hh palamino mare, registered PBA (84%) and registered palamino. mane and tail left natural. pretty, nice conformation, showjumps, xc, schooled. honest and practical opinions appreciated

I pulled Roz's mane and showed her in PBA classes, plaited, basically because there are more PBA classes in our area, than Palomino classes! When we could find a Palomino class, I showed her in them with her mane unplaited.
Judges in PBA classes do go for the non-Araby looking, bays and browns, if that's any help! But I didn't let it stop us! We still went out, had fun, got placed, qualified for the UK Championships etc!
For local shows, it sounds as if she'd be a good candidate for Riding Club/PC pony.

hi heidi i find in the PBA classes that she does stand out as being very arabby and agree that the least looking arab does usually wins. i can say in all honesty that its not always down to conformation or ridden ability either! (can never understand that one) i feel some judges dont seem to see further than her colour either. She has been placed and has even had a first in some but has always it depends on the judge. i got to the point where before i entered this particular class i would first find out who was judging.. saves time and money. another i find confusing is the small working hunter........... toni rode her in this class and they didnt put a foot wrong. they were also one of just a few to go clear over a course of natural jumps. yet they weren't placed. i really thought they were going to be placed. i do want charisse to have fun but at the same time its nice to know that all the work involved is giving you a fair chance of being placed instead of being outcast from the moment you step into the ring. do you know what i mean? which is why im interested in your views.

I think as much as it would be sacrolage (sp?) in order to get placed in PBA, hunter classes etc etc she'd have to have her mane pulled & plaited. This is why i refuse to show sunny in any of these classes - one she looks far too araby and two her mane is far too precious.

It does seem rather crazy, if some that didn't jump clear were placed above her in the WHP! Unless she had a wild and crazy style of jumping, that they didn't feel was suited to the hunting field!
The Araby-ness, does always go against them in WHP classes. Having said that, Roz and I were called in 1st at one local show, in the WHP. For some reason they did the class backwards! (Show first, then jump!) Roz kindly helped me to dismount, into a ditch, so I could check it for safety! After that we were last! I don't think it was her "Araby look" that let us down that time! Araby-ness doesn't seem to matter for PC/RC Pony classes though. Roz did VERY well in them!

good news is that charisse will be officially re enrolled again in senior PC next thursday ;D i cant wait! she'll be doing all the things she loves again. the WH thing was very wierd. she has a very good jump both xc and sj. the silliest thing too was she was in her 3rd year of hunting at the time lol and even whipped in at the PC ones jumping everything and anything in her sight. strange world this showing isnt it?!
