Always used a small comb meself and sprayed the finished article with non-perfumed hairspray to keep it looking good!

PP, I used to do that until I had Dk Brown and Black horses and found the hair spray attracted dust for some reason. Where is Arabheaven? it took me hours to write that

If you get a long enough comb, you can take out teeth in centre making gap same width at those left in, and that way you get two squares done at once! bit quicker. Though if you are doing hunter classes or SHP types then you can do the wide stripes of quarter marker i.e. bodybrush width, same prep as SS3 does, then draw the bb straight down and leave a gap between two that is the same width, then level them up by drawing brush along top and bottom.

Where is Arabheaven? it took me hours to write that sorry SS! i keep coming back to it and re-reading it still trying to make sense of it thankyou though ;D ......... Put Bryl Creme on your hand and wipe over CLEAN quarters using a clean body brush, brush all the hair one way following the way the hair grows Stand behind your horse and run the bodybrush down centre line from the hip end to the tail start your squares and space them evenly to about a body brush widthfrom the base of the tail if they are not level draw your brush along the bottom of the squares to make them level repeat in a chequerboard effect until you are down to one square then repeat on the other side you finish them off by brushing sharks teeth down the quarters below your marks finish by sweeping your B brush ftrom the base of the tail behind your marks, down the quarters on each side ....how do i do a chequerboard/sharks teeth effect though? do you have any pics of it?

You've missed the bit about starting your squares along the line you've drawn down the centre of the Quarters!! sorry it's a bit squished together but it takes me all my time to type with one finger, and I forget spacings------read it again carefully. I can't post piccys ----Anyone??? If you can find a photo of a show pony/ horse with Sharks teeth ( pointed marks down the sideof it's quarters, to look at I'll try and explain howyou do that

Chequerboard effect-----1st row say 8 squares(depends on size of squares and length of Quarters) 2nd row, start square under the 1st gap between 1st and 2nd square on the top row and repeat so you have 7 on that row Repeat each line so it gets shorter and shorter by 1 square per line until you are left with 1 square at the bottom. Phew! is that clearer? ;D

Here are some diagrams I drew for another forum, you might find them helpful Use a damp body brush to create 'sharks teeth'. The shaded part is the brush stroke, always brush towards the tail: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.

I was taught to do chequers using a damp body brush and a matchbox. plcae matchbox on area you want to start, and use a downward stroke to the right of the matchbox (mb) and another along the bottom of the mb, so you have a right angled corner, move the mb along and repeat several times, then go down under the first and make another row, and so on until you have the req'd number of boxes. then with a damp comb, simply "shade" in every second box shape by lifting the hair up, away from the way it lies naturally. I think that's right!
