I'm just filling out the entry form for our first ever show together. I'm planning on doing some in-hand classes as I want to get J used to going to shows and also so I can see how he reacts. The show is only a very small local one but I'm not sure what I should turn J out in.
Someone told me that I should use an in-hand bridle, someone else told me I should use a double bridle or a rugby pelham and another person told me I can use his normal bridle and a snaffle bit.
What should I use?? The classes I'm planning on doing are: Riding Horse, Best Conditioned Grass Kept and Best Part-bred (see I told you it's only a fun local show).

How old is he? If he's 3 or under he should have an inhand bridle with coupling, but if he's four or over he should have a ridden bridle with reins. A snaffle is fine for local level but if you go above that a pelham or double with two reins is more correct.
For the riding horse class he should have a velvet browband, but that's not essental for a little show. For the other classes he can be in either a plain or coloured browband.

Thanks you cubic and carols. He is 11 yrs old. I have a straight bar rubber pelham, does it have to be a different one or would that be ok for a little local show?

That would be fine, but you should have two reins.

I am going to do the same I asked the same question on the other page. I have picked up a inhand bridle with couplings and leather lead. He is bay and I made the mistake of getting a black bridle but never mind its only a local show too so I dont think it will matter much. I am not sure if I will plat his main yet though...

I've only got black tack so it'll have to do for local shows. I cwould get him a brown bridle but I can't afford to get him a brown saddle at the moment. If we were going to do higher level showing then I would get the correct tack. Does your horse have to be registered to enter county shows?
