He's not a show hunter, they are very chunky with masses of bone. Judges seem to like them bigger and bigger! I went in a ladies hunter class recently on a 16.1hh horse - we were last against HUGE horses of 17hh+??!!! To me that's not a ladies hunter, too big etc, but hey! If the show you are going to splits the show hunter classes into lightweight, middleweight, heavyweight, you could maybe try him at lightweight if you wanted to?
No reason at all why you can't do workers, at lower levels it tends to be split novice, intermediate, open, etc, so just start with the novice and see how you get on. If he can jump a nice clear round and do a nice show you are certainly in with a chance, his conformation is quite nice.
Looking at the photos he also looks suitable for a riding horse class.

Without knowing height, I would suggest Riding Horse, poss Small Hunter class (if right height) but he would need more top line without making him too fat though, or is he small enough to do Intermediate Show Hunter or Riding type (again height/rider age thing), Workers are obviously a totally diff. ball game as they need to be able to jump at hunting pace (i.e. very boldly) and a good jump round and invididual show can make all the diff. even if he is not quite true to type. Catagorising by pics is always so hard as you can't see movement/action/the whole pic really. Quite often its better to go and do some RC level or even higher and just see what feed back you get from judges but even than can be vague, one judge told me a homebred would do better in SHP (though he placed him 2nd) and same day diff. judge in SHP class said might be better in RP class so I just kept doing both and qualifyign for both.

Hiya,
yeah i know what you mean. This is just a local show at the moment.
He is 16.1hh and i am 15. He would jump every thing and anything everyone i know says how much he looks to enjoy it! Hes not slow going round but not very fast (unless asked). I was thinking riding horse but the shows we have been to what i would call a Hunter 16.2hh good amount of bone won the class and in the show hunter a show pony type won it, even had the big browband thing on! Every show we go to its always different, as to what the judge likes i spouse. There is a riding club type there to, shall i just try most of them over this summer and see what we do best in?? thanks for your help hay

He would be Ok for a riding horse class though they are often TB's. Would be great for a Riding Club class as he looks a good honest sort, though you may have to pop a jump. if he is a good jumper why not try a working hunter class?

I would say RH then as he's 16.1 and/or workers, or as bethebest suggested there are RC horse classes which may or maynot include a jump or two they should be good. But yes give it a go and see how it all transpires though if you get a choice of hunter classes go for the l/w unless its the Novice class when they are usually all in together. Def. plain browband though for hunters and fancy for RH
