A friend of mine is looking to buy a ridden Sec D to show, does anyone here show sec d's at county or higher, besides the obvious confirmation, what is in fashion, i.e height, colour, what sort of head, for a mare in particular and then a stallion or gelding, any info would help.

Judging by the ones round here... flash, fire and go, I think!

Fashion! Such a shame to buy any animal based on what is in fashion. If you havn't any knowledge of section D's dont get one, they are not for the faint hearted.

I have to agree with the above - don't buy one unless you know what you are doing - they can be a real handful but it seems like the smaller ones are becoming more popular with judges again thank goodness so stick to under 15.2 and yes they need to have fire and enthusiasm for most judges who know what a good welshie should be.

try this link www.wpcs.uk.com/ponies/sectioncd.htmli have a sec d 2 year old i hope will do some showing later in the year but i bought her as there was something that drew her 2 me yes she moved nice but it was her presence that i fell in love with even though she was at the time terrified of stables and very insecure having 3 homes in 4 months but she wasnt expensive other wise on a limited budget i couldnt have afforded her i would never buy because it was in fashion as at the end of the day you want to enjoy the animal and buying that way you may not end up with the right D for you and every year fashion changes so would you trade it in for another model next year? i dont mean to sound nasty but with what happended to my yearing before i got her i feel strongly about this as it isnt fair on the horse this is my welsh d 2yo filly
