does anyone know if it would be ok to take a 2yo gelding who looks quite lightweight into one of these classes in hand? he looks sort of TBish but we dont really know his breeding but would love to take him out and about for some experience most of the classes for youngstock seem to be for specific breeds so we just wondered if we couls try this? anyone know what they are looking for in this type of class?

It really depends on the level, if he looks more like a Riding Horse then look out for these type of classes or competition youngstock.
Adult hunter weights small, lights, meds, heavies, now I guess that a l/w class might do him but they rarely split the youngstock class to weights, try a few at local and RC level and if nothing else he will get the experience
If you join PUK they do many youngstock class's especially at the bigger shows and he would fit the ISRT (intermediate show riding type) poss Comp. Horse.
Have you got a picture of him at all?

If you just want to get him out and about then yes i would do so, also look for pot event horse/sports horse type comps - they run them at Bramham and other large horse trials - just divided by age.

Sorry Flash, just noticed your reply. If he's full up 15.2 you should get away with Hunter classes ,providing he's got enough bone. Otherwise you could look at Riding Horse in hand classes if he is a good straight mover-----a photo would help loads
