I am struggling to ride in my new riding boots. Anyone know if under BD rules you are allowed to wear 1/2 chaps?

Hi, you are allowed Gaiters as long as they are of identical leather to the boot. I use my mountain horse supportive but i have a standby pair of Ariats and leather gaiters just in case. If you want any other information go to the BD website and type in Rules in the search box. Hope thats helped you!!

On the same lines, what about local showing? My long boots stop my circulation but i have some lovely jod boots and leather chaps ? I've always shown in long ones but can't afford to get another pair made for me now.

Have you tried getting your saddlery shop to stretch the leg part of the boot? I bought my leather riding boots from a car boot sale and couldn't believe that these boots fitted me, pure bargain. but because one of my legs is more developed in the calf, i had to get one of them stretched, it takes about a week, and can only be stretched half an inch, but it does make a huge difference. before i had it done, i used to stuff wet newspaper in the boot the night before the show (with a towel in the foot part) this also helped.

i have thought of that julz but they are the Rectiglne ones with a zip up the back so not sure if they would be able to stretch them without breaking the zip, the other thing i thought of was asking saddler to put an extra piece of leather in at the back next to the zip and i saw a lady on ebay who had this done and was selling hers as she had lost weight!

Ponypit, i have a pair of Sarm Hippique boots with a zip at the back and they were stretched absolutley fine without breaking the zip (well worth it as they were so painful to wear!!!)

PP my boots are the same as yours and they are bloomin uncomfortable! Am going to see if I can find something to soften the leather with, and wear them to do teh housework!. My friend saved the day by lending me her leather gaiters which were lovely and comfortable. Off to by a pair asap!

You can also get leather or elastic inserts in them if they can't be stretched enough.

Superb news, off to the local saddler they will go then! I haven't had a need to wear long boots for a few yrs and when i saw these in the tackshop as clearance from £239 to £99 well who am i to resist? I would love to show in my jod boots but am well past the sell by age to get away with it now!

I had local shoe mender put a piece of lengthway stretch elastic in between the zip and leather on my old boot when they got too tight - haven't seen rectiligne boots for ages - had a pair years ago and they were gorgeous and soooo comfy
