Right now that we have this new section I was thinking it would be nice to start a thread dedicated to show/competition preparation. So what are the essentials to remember and what tips do you have to get that winning shine?
I'll state some obvious ones: Pony/horse (lol!) Tack, headcollar and lead rope Bandages/boots water & water bucket Grooming brushes, hoof pick, show shine, hoof oil, sponges Plaiting equipment Fly spray Haynet and hay rugs depending on weather
breeches/jods shirt/tie/stock etc show/tweed jacket hairnet gloves boots show cane (if you use one) hat boot polish money
Top Tip - clean eyes and muzzle with a damp sponge just before you enter ring - if not too hot apply some vaseline around these areas to dark horses

Oh yep.
Rhonda - I used to show Sunny my Arab but only at low level as she was too unpredictable, one day she'd be fab and the next she'd do her tigger impression 'bouncy, bouncy' ! She decided that she preferred jumping so we did that instead.
I've now got a little connie as well. Unfortunately she's unregistered which is such a shame as she has wondeful conformation and paces. So i'm going to se how she does locally in unreg M&M and WHP classes. If she does well in WHP i might concentrate on that and get a smaller jockey for her (she's only 13.3HH)

Spare girth, curb chain, tie (Those are the things that usually get forgotten)
And your schedule of course. Nothing more annoying than forgetting it and the secretary tent has run out!

A bottle of rescue remedy, packet of cigs and a lighter to be added to all of the above! (the latter obviously only applies to us unhealthy types!)

How about valium for the ultimate nervous show-er? My friend has used it, she does dressage and gets SO nervous, it's unreal!!

Aceofspades, a lot of people don't but some do. Usually brown/black gloves.

Usually brown/black gloves. Brown are much more correct for showing. Black traditionally signifies you are in mourning (and you shouldn't be out with your horse while you are in mourning...!) Showing and it's traditions!

Well you and I both know that, but that's just what I've seen people wear when they do decide to wear gloves In hand
