I have Never Ever had nerves before a competition or any outing. Sure, i get the excited butterflies on arriving at teh venue, btu that's it...but 2 days before my xc I am feeling ill...
I feel so nervous it's rediculous. I can feel a panic attack comign on adn I dpnt' wnow what to do to stop it. I really want to gfo. I love competing and jumping and everyhting adn I'm taking sonky and she is sucha good boyu. but i jsut donm't know what to do. I am shaking and it's never been like thsi before.
I am really angry with myself. I ahd a lvoely schoolig session with Sonks today worked realyl well adn felt fine.
Now, the thought of doing this xc is nerve racking to say the least. Please hlpp

You'll be fine it's just excitment and that 's a positive sign. I had a similar thing a while back and got over it by doing positive visualisation of my round, i.e imagine the whole thing and it all going really well. By the time I got there I couldnt wait to get going. Have fun. (I'm quite envious, I'll be helping OH rewire our house this weekend, much rather be doing XC)

hehe patsy, thansk.
I do,. I always imagine completing a course adn going clear adn eevryhting running smoothly...but then I havea voice in my head saying: That's just teh ideal...it won't happen. You're rubbish...you'll probably fall off..
then i start thinking: oh god, what If horse hurts himself? I wobn't be able to do it I'm useless...etc etc...

You have to resist those bad voices and say (out loud) I am a very good rider, I am going to have a great round XC, everything will be fine etc. However silly you feel, if you keep saying that out loud you will feel better. After all you have done the preparation and it is more likely to go really well than anything else, so all you have to do is believe it will go well ('cause it probably will). That's the best way to make sure you have a great day. If you have trouble with 'bad' pictures in your head, try making them smaller and smaller until they dissapear. Instead of saying 'you're rubbish' say 'I'm a good rider' etc Have fun..

Hi Miranda, echo Patsy's advice. Picture yourself having fun and coming home safe. If any nasty thoughts come into your head, try the getting smaller idea (great idea Patsy, I am going to try that. I just try to rid them immediately, but I think I'll try shrinking them now) and replace them with you crossing the line safe and smiling. Good luck and have fun!

Miranda, trust Sonky - he will take you through and look after you . Just let him go and enjoy it, and soon you will too. And you won't be alone - your companion is much more unpredictable and difficult - I bet you will shine at the end of the day! Also, my body protector is a lucky thing so you'll be OK...
