I am still grinning. I have come into work today still on a high. I have bored my husband rigid and now my work mates!
Monday started with us all riding a dressage test, I choose a walk trot test as canter is still a no no for me in a test.
I do say though the test was very challenging and fater seeing what we had, I know the prelim 7 would have been easier to ride.
It was 7 mins long!
I did my usual go wrong bit even with a caller. I have a hearing issue so it is harder but in reality I didnt know the test well enough, my fault.
I came out feeling so out of breathe, so I obviously didnt breathe enough. I didnt feel it had gone that well. But all said it was superand I had forgotten how easily he did keep trot up and he did all through the phases. The trans were all good and obedient.
I got manily 6's and a couple of 7's! I thought this cant be right.
After all rode the test, we then watched our test back, and I thought, wow that is us! what lovely rhythm, what a relaxed calm horse and amazing often in a true outline ( as we dont hold horses in shapes) He was a star.
I then had another lesson. What happened was to change me forever! I had to use more beardown and suck him up under me, as the horse would go if you tickled him underneath and he reached up and went into a arch shape! He did it! or should I say I did it! and I felt for the 1st time ever I was ona posh dressage horse I was ontop of this BIG amazing horse stepoping iunderhimself and I was then pushing him into a longer stride but keeping him under me at the same time. God did I feel pain, inside my thighs, in my bum muscles down the back of my outer thighs even through to outer calves. MY structure must have become so strong to hold him there. Then I was asked to keep this and trot! WHAT! you have to be kidding! but It happened, I did it. I was on the this horse I have never ridden before. My Flynn became a real powerful dressage horse, Nicky said, MY GOD look at his stride..he looks like a Andulasian.. BUT he is..I shouted back the ID has Andy blood in its makeup! he was really becoming engaged like never before and the trot then became a powerful WOP! WOP under me! at each stride. The more we rode the easier it became when I could keep it up. Breatheing certainly helped.. so easy to say, not so easy to do. I had Flynn there under me and me around him, and I felt I could do anything , even dance with him.
Now I know this is early days we have so much to work on here to keep this. IT is going to be hard to keep remembering that feel! the experience, that movement.
BUT WHAT was even more rewarding was I was told he looked slimmer! why, because he had improved his core strength and was holding himself up and not flopping along. As I was.
I rode the test again, Yes even went wrong again, and yes with caller again. Am I stupid I ask...
I felt better, I did try to keep this feeling and I did at times. But again still didnt feel that much better, how wrong was I.
I still have to see the video, but my test was mainly 7's and a 8 and even a 9! I just cant take it in.
Nicky is not a generous marker. I dont feel as she taught she marked high, or was giving anything away. as it is no point telling you it is right when it isnt right. It all had to be earned.
But I have been told just wait till you see the video and you will see why we both deserved those marks.
I know the 9 was for a 20 mtr circle in trot, due to everything being correct as asked for and aimed for.The 8 was for trans from trot to med walk and turn at B smooth trans and good march rhythm.! was the comments
I havent added up the total or the percentages as it wasnt a competition.
I cant tell you how much this means to me. I have always been at the bottom of dressage results. I gave it up, because there is only so many times you can beat yourself up and be at the bottom.
I may well consider going out again soon. Not sure as they say One Swallow doesnt make a Summer.
I can only say this.. MW got it right, her teaching methods work, if you are prepared to be open minded, be prepared to feel different, be prepared to work at it and most of all be prepared to change as you will have to to if you want to progress with it.
It isnt overnight but when to do get those rewards, it is all worth it.
Imagine true outline and not held into that contact at all, no nagging with reins and those xnumber of £'s pressure to get it and keep it! Impulsion because it is round and working in a circle not a sq box. Back to front and round again.
I will have pictures soon and I will post them when I have them, to share with you my real rewards. I own a super star!
I cant say enough, of how I didnt think I could go this route and go backwards to do it, how most around me who rode conventionally said why go back to basics and throw away all those years. I didnt! I went forwards from day one.
Those who have stood and questioned what on earth was I doing, or thought I was doing nothing in fact were all wrong. I have the start of some amazing results to show for doing nothing!
