Does anyone know of any livery yards near newark that also hold dressage comps occasionally.
Planning on moving Dan back to Newark and would be nice to have him somewhere where I can do the odd prelim. I know of a few but wondered what other places there are to widen my choice

There is a place at Newark that holds dressage regularly but the name of it escapes me at the moment - think they advertise under "Newark Dressage"? Dunno if they do livery as well though, not been there yet! I know Grant's Equestrian at Collingham have a lovely set up, they run sj but not sure about dressage, might be worth asking? And there's always Caythorpe, apparently the DIY yard there is not too bad and they hold regular unaffil and BD comps, although they're not all that near to Newark.

Hi mags,
the yard jenny is talking about is at Coddington and run by Claire White. We sometimes go there for comps. It's a really nice yard and I'm sure she does take liveries. Claire is lovely - always very friendly and helpful at comps. They run 2 a month, one on a Wednesday and one on a Sunday. Let me know if you n eed the number.

Ok, i'm probably being dim here and got the wrong horse but wasn't Dan on loan with Trouble and came back home as he really didn't like his dressage and kept switching off so he was giving it up? Or am i having a blonde senile moment again, wouldn't surprise me in the slightest, having far too many of them recently..........*wanders off scratching baldness**

It is the same Dan, yes - He loved his dressage, but only when HE chose to do it - you have to sit on him and let him choose what he wants to do that day - to a certain extent. It was because I was saying 'no, you get to do what you want for 23 hours a day, I want you to do this for me for a bit' he was throwing in the towel if he wasn't in the mood.
I'm too ambitious and it wasn't fair of me to push him because of my ambition. He's now got the choice of chillout hacking when he wants and poncing as a dressage pony when he wants.

Restored my faith in senile blonde moments Trouble, bless his cottons, see he only wants to show off when he has had his hair done.......typical man.........

*sign*
He DOES enjoy dressage and will be happy pocing round a prelim now and again(not sure i'll ever do one though cos im more scared than him. competings not my thing but thought a few written comments now and then on my riding would be good feedback)
What he finds difficult is the pressure of more intensive schooling which naturally comes with competing at higher levels(which Jo wants)Its pessure he switches off to, not dressage
The idea of keeping him at a place which holds comps is that i wont be a 'comp' to him it will just be another schooling session and you dont exactly have to put pressure on for a prelim test.

and yes Jo's right, he now chooses what he wants to do. The only time I 'ask him to o in the school is for lessons but as he's had a choice the rest of the week he is happy to oblige. If he chooses on the day he doesnt want to do a test then we go for a hack...not like iv had to transport him to a show

You WILL do a competition, you'll do well with him, just drink a bottle of Rescue Remedy before you go in and you'll be fine! Bet you'll beat my horse, Dan's paces are really nice

I find a good swig of Jamaican White rum (which I keep on the lorry) just before mounting always helps my test !!! (or maybe it makes me just not care anymore ....)!
