My little Ollie has been poorly, but fingers crossed everyone he's on the mend. Three weeks ago (I think, bit of a blur) I found blood on his dung and a worrying few hours were followed by more, fresh red blood and clots, and that's the way it stayed for more than a week. As we moved house last autumn I hadn't had a vet out yet, and I have to say the service provided by my new vets has not eased my anxiety at all...but I'll not to go into that. (My last vets were fantastic, so I've been spoiled by excellent service and trust)
Ollie is a laminitic pony and a pre-cushings (not tested but strong indicators) he's insulin resistant so has to have his feed intake very carefully controlled and as he lives at home it is relatively easy to keep to small regular feeds...the worry always being stomach ulcers/laminitis (how do you sp stomach, it looks odd?) but bleeding stomach ulcers cause old, brown/black blood to be passed, so the bleeding was lower in the intestines...Anyway, we don't know the cause but I've changed his regime (the vet who came to see him thought it might be cushings related ulceration along the length of his gut)and now sweating re weight/ laminitis. At the moment he seems fine (he did throughout!) and no blood so I'm just taking each day as it comes, and trying to keep the bad thoughts away. I know you'll all understand how worrying the last few weeks has been (oh god, I'm crying! Pull yourself together girl!)
Esme, I hope you see this, thank you for asking about Ollie (other thread) this is first time back since then.
Jackie, if you see this thanks for reply on your site...tried several times to reply but computer was a pain and I just haven't had the time to get back.
Please send Ollie your positive thoughts
