I have a set of Shires saddlebags but have never been 100% sure where to put them or where to fix them, and a web search for helpful pictures has drawn a bit of a blank. They're OK if I put them over the saddle behind my leg but do tend to start migrating one way or the other if we do a lot of trotting. I do have the girth strap done up, but nothing attached to the d rings. Any suggestions? Thanks

They go underneath your saddle at the back and attatch to hour girth straps, they do tend to flap about a bit against the horses sides though when trotting but they dont tend to mind.

I always wanted a set of saddlebags when Chelsea and i used to go out foraging together - I had to make do with a cyclist's big bum bag (sounds a bit odd!!!) It was fine till I tried trotting with a bag full of crab apples bouncing around

LOL Nettie!! I laughed at the description of the bag ... sounded like it could only be used by cyclists with big bums! And then had visions of you trotting along with crab apples bouncing everywhere! ;D

Thanks for that, I was on the right track then. There does seem to be a bit of a conflict keeping the bags tight under the back of the saddle and arranging an attachment under the saddle flaps to the girth billets though, on my saddle at least. The middle bit ends up over the back of the saddle pad on her loins. I assume if you attach them fairly firmly then they won't slip to one side? Oddly they only came with one strap to attach to the billets, and I checked if this was correct Rio is very tolerant of them, we've ridden at all paces with them on without any bother, including a big stubble in full racing mode. Nettie, if I'm not mistaken they cost less than £10, so not out of the question
