On Sunday Bramble and I took a little tumble and we're feeling a bit worse for wear.
Poor old Bramble, we were schooling in one of the resting fields (flat) and we had a little trot and Bramble stumbled over a lump of dirt and went down on her knees and threw me off over her head as she did so.
it wasn't very painful to begin with but an hour or so later OUCH!
Bramble luckily didn't cut anything but she has banged her knees up pretty well they are very swollen. She was very scared after she picked herself up sh ran over to the other horses (leg through reins) to calm down, managed to catch her and got back on just so she wouldn't remember it being scary last time but hopped off quickly after.
So now to my question I have been advised to take arnica supplement along with some very high dose pain killers to get me going again properly (My whole left side is very swollen and I have strange tingling sensations down it because I have squashed a nerve ) but I just wondered if it would be able to be given to Bramble to help the swelling in her knees go down? if not are there any other natural supplement that will help them?
off to have a bath now

Ouch sounds like a real nasty toss you had there. Can you not hose Brambles knees down each day? Or hold some of those special ice pack thingies to her knees for a while??

You noticed the bit I forgot to post I have cold hosed them this afternoon for a little while, she seemed to enjoy it as she took to grooming me, soppy thing. I am probably being overcautious as we are away next week and have friends horsesitting so would prefer her to be 100% when they look after them for us, she will be having that week off. Would you give her the week off or would you ride or work in hand?

I believe arnica is ofen used on horses and ponies so yes it should help! Ive just aconite which is made by the same brand. I use aconite for calming down though (her not me! lol) when loading and travelling but she doesnt need it now.

If it was me to be honest I probably wouldn't ride, but would lead out and about and see how they are with that, though of course you don't want her to stiffen up either. Sorry I can't be of more help. xx I can't think of anything else.

Yup, the homeopathic vet I used to use advised the use of arnica after something like this - but I can't for the life of me remember the dose!!!

Copied from Chris Days homeopathic book for horses. The 6c potency is the most widely available, 30c potency is an alternative, if available. As a general rule twice daily dosing is acceptable, until improvement is noticed. 6 pilules can be given at one time. I hope this helps you and bramble get over your fall xx

Thanks guys, she is out 24/7 so is able to move around freely when she wants to which is really good. hopefully I'll have a little time for packing today if I don't ache too much, it's always before something important you fall off isn't it ;D

Definatly arinica and cold hosing and anica gel as well to apply direct to her knees.
Glad you are both ok, hope she didn't break her reins!

Ouch! Sorry to hear you both had a fall.
I wouldn't ride, and agree that as she is turned out she will be able to exercise herself as much as she needs, and avoid stiffening up. Hope you recover in time for your holiday.

Thankfully Bramble's knees are a lot less puffy so will be happier leaving her while I go on holiday, only hope my back gets better in time as I am still feeling all the aches and pains
