i used to work single handedly at a small local animal sanctuary, this wasnt a charity just an older lady who owned some land and wanted to take in large animals in need of care and attention. i took over the place for her put fencing up, fed watered and cared for the animals as well as my own horses(i got to keep them there free for the work i was doing). anyway i moved away and couldnt do the work as much so the lady got a girl about 19 to help me, we never really went up at the same time if i did mornings she did nights etc. as the years went on and i had my daughter i gave it up except to cover for holidays and i decided to go up for a visit yesterday. there are two shetlands two donkeys and two tb's. the shetlands are in a small padock with access to 3 full bales of hay! the two tbs are in a starvation padock with heavy weight outdoor rugs on and the donkeys are in poor condition. one shetland has curled feet and the other looks very lamanitic. i spoke to the lady who owns the place and she basically told me to mind my own but i cannot stand by and see these animals in such bad condition. is there anything i can do

Rather than the RSPCA, I would get the BHS or ILPH involved - they are normally pretty good for coming in & trying to help advise people.

yea would like to see pics. Thinking about it, i agree with varkie, you would probably get the better response from the ILPH or BHS as they solely deal with equines.

Try the BHS as they can go along and advise them on the best manner for keeping their horses, the ILPH i believ work on a similar basis. Try to contact someone about it and with any luck she will get the hint. Let us know how you get on.

Hi there, I agree with the above re: ILPH. I have called them on one occassion because I had real concerns regarding some horses near me and I knew the person who 'owned' them was not very approachable. They were VERY good. They spoke on several occassions to the 'owner' which was all they could do as they had food as water. They update me with the progress and the result was that the horses were moved to a better yard.
