A friend of mine has just been made redundant but she is a photographer in her spare time. She does weddings and such like and is excellant at her job with a knack of taking more personal photos of an occasion rather than the usual stand upright-stiff types...
Anyhow I had an idea for her that I think is good but wondered what the rest of you thought? I was at a show recently that had trade stands and there was a photographer there that had arty type photos of horses amongst other animals etc. And I had the idea that ordinary horse owners might be interested in having an arty-type photo taken of them with their horses or favourite pet etc. Not the typical just standing beside them but something a lot more personal that only a professional photographer would have the eye for. What do you think? If this was a service would you think of availing of it at all? Assuming that it wasn't madly expensive of course!

Sounds good, id be interested if i had more money. I suspect it could be very popular, she could do photos at shows as well, ad could prob earn good money doing it all full time.

Thanks flic. Any other thoughts at all? I would really love to gauge what the possible interest is so I can tell my friend if she should have a go at it or not. Even just a yes or a no! Thanks!

I'd love to have a professional photograph taken of me and my boy on a more personal level. For example, I often sit in the field & stable with him nuzzling me and wish I could get a picture of it! What a great idea! Obviously wouldn't have to break the bank balance though!

I'm sure there's a market for an idea like this. Good luck to her.

Sounds like a good idea to me. I would be interested if I had any spare money.

Yes, it's a good idea. Does she have an understanding of the relationship between horses and their owners? She'd need that in order to capture the special moments. It's that whole portraiture thing about capturing the personalities in an 'off guard' moment. She'd need to build up a portfolio first, so it might be an idea to do some freebies or cheapies for friends ... that will be a good time to explore different types of shot. The only other thing I can offer is that horses can be extremely difficult to photograph, so it would be worth looking into the some of the books that offer tips on this. Hope that helps!
