Some of you may remember that last year our foal was born 'windswept' I'd never heard of this before and was very alarmed at how wonky her back legs were. She's now a yearling and she's straightened up lovely, just as the vets said she would. this was how she was born and this is her now.

omg that is quite amazing! I guess the bones are very soft and are able to straighten. Why does this windswept effect happen? Is it how they are in the womb?? v.interesting x

How extraordinary! I didnt see you original thread but that is fascinating. What causes the "windswept" effect??

That's amazing! I'd never heard of the term windswept in relation to horses before - always useful to pick up new bits of information. She's lovely!

Another one here who'd not come across that, but then I know they say legs which are wonky the other way straighten, so why not this way.
What a little sweetie, glad it all worked out.

When she was first born and we were waiting for the vet I was terrified he was going to tell us the worst. It was such a relief when he turned up and casually said she's just windswept, keep her in and she'll straighten. He checked to see that both legs were bent in the same direction and was happy that they were.
I don't think he said what caused it, we just assumed that there wasn't enough room in her mum for such long legs. She could get around fine, but she looked awful as her legs seemed to stick out more when she ran.
