Because it is made out of cheap leather. Same as 'economy' bridles you can buy for about 10-20 quid.
I had one for use as a saddle to put on babies learning to carry a saddle, was good because never minded if it got scraped or ruined but wouldnt have one to use for riding

Chances are the insides are a horror show too, with a badly finished asymetrical tree full of projecting nail heads and staples and stuffing you could possibly catch a tropical disease from. You will only ever get what you pay for, and one of these saddles could easily ruin your horses back. Far better to spend a bit more for something like a Thorowgood Maxam if you're on a budget.

Hi, Ive seen similar saddles being sold at Beeston Horse Sales, u can pick them up for £40. Its imported leather...While they look ok, i agree the tree maybe faulty.
I bought a saddle of ebay 3wks ago, it was a Katie Eaton (suffolk saddler) i phone her up and asked what she would charge she told me approx 850 but wouldn,t come this far north....I got it for 300 inc P&P.....its a fantastic saddle the comfiest ive ever ridden in and fits my xxwide cob brilliant.....17inch xxwide working hunter with full suede seat black English leather
I know 300 isnt alot of money to some ppl but it was to me and especially just b4 xmas, i could of got the £40 from Beeston. But i wouldn,t take the risk with either of my girls backs.
Ive bought 2 bridles from beeston, imported leather they cost a fiver each, and r really lovely bridles, very supple and no fraying.... I dont mind having the cheaper bridle, as i can check the buckles and leather every time i use it.....
I know saddles can be very expensive, but you have to consider what price a cheap saddle is going to cost in the end...
I was lucky with my saddle it was brand new, but i emailed seller with every ? i could think of. As buying something you cant see is very dicey, especially as some ppl have had bad experiences with buying a saddle of ebay.....
My thinking is....if it seems to good to be true, then usually it is......

can i just add that sometimes you can get a bargain on e-bay as the mark up on some saddles is huge, i buy direct from manufacturers, not the middle man and everything is the same quality but it is not passed through 3 or 4 hands before it gets to me so i can keep the price low but i would say that be wary of what leather it is try and stay with german or english leather

You also have to be very very careful not to buy an Indian made saddle, these are terrible saddles with insides as Yann has described, the saddle makers have also been known to use hospital waste as flocking!

..... and then you have to ask yourselves 'where do all the stolen saddles go'? If people are prepared to buy saddles from ebay & horse-sales to 'get a bargain' then they are perpetuating the market for stolen saddles, so the thieves will continue with their lucrative crimes. Sorry!

Don't be sorry rj - this is the unpalatable truth about people wanting everything cheap.

Note the 'Imported leather' which probably means it was made in India. I have seen the inside of once such saddle and whilst they look lovely on the outside it would have crippled your horse. The tree was dreadful and the workmanship inside made me want to go there and throttle them.
Just beware anything that says import.
Having said that you can pick up some lovely things on ebay but you just have to be careful.

Gem I just PM'd you! sorry! but let me know if you save up a bit more, as its not going anywhere fast!. I keep meaning to put it on Ebay but always forget. I wish it fitted my 14.2 hh but its too wide at the cantle even though it looks good when hes standing still, it moves at the back when he goes forward. Someone said the pro is narrower panels so I may try one of these instead.

I know absolutely nothing about english riding, but I think the thing looks cheap. For Christmas this year I am getting an $800 Circle Y western saddle from a local tack store. My dad was with me when I picked it out and he knows nothing about saddles, but even he could tell the difference between it and a Farm and Fleet saddle as a FandF saddle is very cheap in price and in look. (Farm and Fleet is a discount farm store in the Midwest U.S.) This english saddle looks like something I would find at Farm and Fleet. You do not want a Farm and Fleet saddle, trust me.
