If you have a price at 850 and get an offer for 450, what should I accept? This is for a children's pony, who I know would sell for lots more in the spring but the cost of keeping until then would equal the extra I would get.

Suggest 625 - that's half way!

I would say it depends on where he wold be going as the home is worth loads in terms of peace of mind. If it is a good children's ppony then they are worth their weight in gold as a child's safety is paramount. It really is up to you, but if the person is genuinely interested and the pony is really worth it then I'd suggest meeting them half way perhaps.

say no to 450 but will take 600. Bottom limit and see what they say - surely it wont cost too much to keep the pony til spring? 16 weeks...

Depends what your bottom line really is!! If you are prepared to accept £600 now then more than likely you will be prepared to accept the same amount in spring if the pony hasn't been moved on before then. And show me a pony who doesn't cost at least £150 to keep in the height of winter for 16 weeks!!!!!!! I would say if it is a good home - why not. They often say you won't get the offer twice!

I had a safe l/r gelding for sale, I advertised him in the October as he was being wasted and really wanted more work. He was put up at 950 inc tack and rugs. I had someone come to see him very quickly. They offered 500 I said no. I then kept him through the winter (doesnt cost me very much as I dont pay livery and buy bulk & big bale haylage, ne 10.2hh doesnt make much difference!) and had another person to see him in March, they offered 350 saying he was smaller than they thought (advertised as 10.2hh, I measured him after they left, he measured at 11.1hh) I then had him til June after a lot of timewasting and very low offers (less than 600) until I had a couple and thier little girl come. They loved him and offered 900 which I accepted. He is now in a fantastic home doing off l/r with a 8 yr old and has been broken to drive by the mum, they keep me uptodate with everything and they love him to pieces.
I would say the offer of 450 is ridiculous, you go into the supermarket and ask if they will let you pay half price for your shopping despite a lot of low prices and BOGOF offers do you?! If you are willing to accpet 600 then state so and stick to your guns. Would you really spend 400 pounds on this pony between now and March? I think its cheeky to go and look at a pony and offer only just over half the price.
