My old pony died this year and having had her for years I had her cremated. Anyway I didn't know where to put the cask so she is sitting on my kitchen window - well I used to look out of that window and see her in the stable so it makes sense and I hate the thought of her out in the cold and rain - am I really daft??

Absolutely not daft!
Have her wherever it helps. Pippa Funnel has the ashes of her old competition horse in a casket - apparently she wants the ashes scattered with her own when the time comes. (Was in one of the horsey mags a while back - it struck me as a lovely thought which made me remeber).
Everyone has their own way of greiving and remembering.

That's a relief although it does shock a few people!

If it's any consolation - my old cat is sat in his teeny casket on my dresser in the dining room! I meant to scatter the ashes when it wasn't so painful but I just can't do it yet (2 years) - like you I feel I'd be 'chucking him out' into the weather. Completely illogical but that's how I feel - maybe some people think its morbid or weird but having him near is important to me at the moment. Even more bizarre a friend of mines cat got runover and she buried it in the garden, she was absolutely devastated - 2 days later her house sold - she made her husband dig (so sorry about this but I swear its true) the cat up and rebury him in a sealed box - so when they moved she could dig him up and take him with her - very extreme but sometimes when you've lost an animal thats very dear to you, you become, or at least appear, a little 'insane' sometimes - some more than others. In comparison to that having your pony in the kitchen window seems completely reasonable! So don't worry - you're completely normal!

we lost our beloved boxer dog, cassie in july last year and i have her ashes in my bedroom. would like to scatter them in the river sometime as going for walks and a play there was her favourite thing. we took her there for a special day, the day we were having her pts - it was heartbreaking knowing it'd be the last time but at least we have nice memories from it. anyway, as she used to sleep in my room and i was used to walking in sayin "hiya cassie-boo" - i feel most comfortable with her still being there and can still walk in and say hi/nite/see ya later to her. may scatter ashes at some point but just don't feel ready yet and i think it's perfectly normal for people to have them somewhere that brings them a little bit of comfort - so if thats in your kitchen, thats fine! merry christmas

I have my two dogs's (one was the grand-daughter of the other one) ashes with me. My intentions were to scatter them at a nearby lake which they both loved to play in, but I have just never been able to bring myself to do it. I think thats nice that you keep your horse's in the place where you used to always look out to her.
Merry Christmas xxxx

none of the above are odd, if you are happy with this stuff what anyone else says.
Although my mums friend when she was a live did go one further she had her x pets stuffed, she had several of them around the house. To me they were a bit creepy, some were a bit worse for wear and their glass eyes seemed to follow you about. She spoke to them all every day, its how she dealt with her losses. Not something I would like though.
I do have part of my departed boys tail made into jewelry which I very rarely remove. I have a necklace made of tail and silver, in fact I have several just in case one breaks.

My old boy Humphrey's casket is in the dining room I bred him so he always was part of the family, however, I don't think my husband realised how big a horse's casket would be!!! ;D

I've still got my old horse's ashes, he was pts 3 and a half years ago. I did intend to scatter them up on the moors where he could run free, but haven't got round to it yet and I don't know if I can bring myself to do it.
They're upstairs at my mum's house and she occasionally calls my current horse by my old horse's name by mistake, she then goes "Oh sorry, no, he's upstairs isn't he?" It always makes me laugh, but it shocks other people!

What do you think about people's ashes? My friend has two boxes stacked by the TV, her mum and her hubby. I find it disconcerting.

Jinks I don't know about stuffed animals - very spooky. People's ashes - well why not if you love someone enough does it matter?

I have my nana and my uncle's ashes in the house. They're on a shelf though so its not like everyone can see them and get freaked out! When my dog died suddenly, we were in such shock that we didnt know what to do with the body, we buried her in the garden but then we realised we should have cremated her. We werent prepared to dig her up though! Id definatly get my pony cremated and keep her in the house for a while. Knowing me, id stick her under my coat and take her out on "hacks" and show her some scenery! Then when the time was right, i would spread her ashes in a wonderful, peacful place.

It sounds bizarre to people when they find out that I have Pride's and AJ's caskets in this room with me. Some are disgusted by the thought but it's my choice.
I had intended to scatter their ashes but Pride's was sealed and I couldn't bring myself to break open the box so as I kept his, I also kept AJ's. I decided that when I'm gone they'll be buried with mine and a tree planted. Its even written into my will.
