My 16hh TB 5yo is lovely and light in her mouth and I am wondering whether to change her from her hollowmouth french link to a flexi-mouth happymouth-type bit for dressage and try her in a hackamore for jumping and hacking. I'd quite like to try both but don't want to spend a fortune doing so. Does anyone on here have one I could buy cheaply - I can always buy a better one once I know she's happier in it. Thanks

Hackamores can be a bit severe--what about a Dr Cooks or a dually or even a bosal instead?

Cathy - I'm ordering a Dr. Cooks this week. When it arrives, would you like to try it out?

I've also got a Happy Mouth bit that you can borrow too. There is also a Sprenger KK Ultra, but it might be a bit small for Maddie (I think it's about 5" - 5 1/4")

Thanks Anna - I think she'd be better in a a happy mouth (the flexi ones, not the straight ones) than another jointed bit. If I could borrow your happy mouth that would be wonderful. What size is it? Going bitless was only an idea - will do some looking into the various types of alternatives to hackamores.

English is my second language. For what reason do you want the bit for? For movement and going forward, stop and all that. This you have to do by the seat. Hackamore is very good.
