Now that is very sad. I'm sure we don't know the whole story but even so...

What was the woman thinking?! Would you kill your child because it had a tantrum one day?! That really annoys me, when there are so many ways that horse could have been helped, but now she has been murdered. As you say Smudge, we don;t know the whole story, but to decide to do that after only a week.....??!??!!

I have been reading about this on the other section. I, like others, can't believe a vet would PTS a healthy animal because the owner had lost her confidence with, seemed to be, a difficult horse. Are horses so disposable to some people that they will give no-one else the chance to turn the situation around. I have a horse with issues and tried everything in my power to sort it (he bucked). I ended up selling him on to someone who knew EVERYTHING about him and she has since sold him on to a competition home where he sounds happy. We can't always get it right agreed, but lets be humble enough to admit that WE can't solve it where someone else maybe able to. I don't know the other side of the story and there may be an awful lot more to this, I truly hope there is.

It must be really hard to do the right thing. If she had sold her horse on to someone who professed that they would attempt to solve the problem and give the horse a chance then the horse is in somebody else's hands and unfortunately there are some unscrupulous people about who are after a quick buck. The horse could then have gone on to be doped and sold on to some poor unsuspecting novice who could have got hurt or else apparently sorted, then sold on and reverted back to her old ways. The mare could have ended up at some horse sales, bought by the meat man and then transported hundreds of miles to meet an undignified end. At least this way she had no suffering. I am sorry if I sound hard or calous, but I have to try to be realistic as we can't possibly save them all. It would break my heart, I know, if I had known this mare but, as we haven't been given all the information here about this particular incident then I feel that rather than wish we could have done something, we should feel relieved that at least this is one horse who will not suffer in the wrong hands. i know of a little horse who had problems. The owner felt out of her depth as she had 2 young children and the horse was very nervous, unpredictable and dangerous. She advertised it as having propblems - all of which were disclosed. The horse was bought for a paltry amount by someone who advertises regularly as a reputable dealer in Sports horses, with the assuranse that the horse would not be sold on for 3-6 months as the problems needed time and patience. The horse was then seen advertised on the internet for 6 times the amount paid for him just 2 weeks later. He didn't sell as nobody who tried him could ride him. He was eventually sold on - but who to and where is he now? Who knows what he's now been through?
