I am about to get my own lorry, well more the converted style rear facing large van type one.
I am now looking into insurance. I have had a quote from NFU as they also insure Flynn. But any recommendations please.
Also do you have breakdown cover? if so was it built in or from separate company.

I also bought a lorry recently. Having done extensive research on the net I found the best deal is with SEIB whose premiums include breakdown cover. I then found out that everyone else at our yard with a lorry insures with SEIB because they also found they offered the best deal. I pay about £350.00 per year for fully comp with breakdown cover.

I just added my trailer onto my existing Petplan policy for the sake of simplicity, but plan to shop around next year.

I'm with SEIB too - the deal they offer with all the extras on your insurance is brilliant!

Did you check out the cost of breadown cover seperatly and do a comparison? Or with anyone else. Sometimes inclusive isnt always cheaper. or the best. I will also check this out.

I have just changed from NFU to SEIB as this year I did proper comparison, NFU's breakdown cover (std one) does not cover you within 1 mile of home and SEIB (std) has homestart too included, the people were actually much nicer to deal with by which I mean they actually talked to you rather than reading off sales script (trust me I used to trian tele-sales staff and can here it a mile off). Also the breakdown service with NFU I found was hardwork when I needed them, they refused point blank to ring me on my mobile even though they were told I was alone with daughter and in dark in layby, I had to ring a friend to ring them and get 3rd party conversation. Chap that finally arrived from recovery was good though.

Hi Susan
As I said I spent ages on the net checking out companies that insure horseboxes, and got loads of quotes by e-mail and over the phone. I found that SEIB's inclusive policy worked out cheaper than the cheapest lorry insurance + the cheapest breakdown cover purchased seperately. If you find anything cheaper than SEIB, let me know!!!

Hi ALL.. I think tomorrow I will go to SEIB for a quote, it is possible I have one at work awaiting me to look at when I get in tomorrow. So excited at finally getting my transa again..so doont want to rush into this area either and try and get it right. Riding on the back of others experiences.
Julia..I will let you know how it pans out. I worked in the insurance industry for a while so I do know about asking loads of questions and checking small print..so happy to pass on my own findings. Interesting to hear about NFU and no homestart..and lack of good communications when one was broke down. Not what you need when in that situation.
The beauty of a forum. Thanks
