I use NFU and have done for years. Not the cheapest but the best in service terms that I have dealt with Enjoy your new horse.

I'm a bit baffled as well Weeping Willow because I thought you had lots of horses and ponies.
NFU will usually come out highly recommended on this site and I had one of mine insured with them at one point. It can work out expensive depending on the cover you need but you get what you pay for.

I am with NFU too, they have a very good reputation, hopefully I wont need to put it to the test though

I've been with South Essex for ever, (since a major row with Norwich Union in the Late sixties/early seventies) They have always paid out , and their vets bill cover is £5000 per incident, unlike some companys also most of their staff seem pretty knowlegeble so if the insurers decide to put a no future claim clause on a part of your horse, they will argue for you if your case is reasonable, and get it reinstated. PS let us know how you get on catching him----remembering your last thread !

I use nfu, south essex and e&l, nfu have been fine at paying out although their exclusions sometimes seem a bit strange (sparrow's "feet" are excluded because the vet noted at the vetting that he needed shoeing and the nfu won't consider removing the exclusion even with a vet or farrier's covering letter, very wierd!). e&l are... well.... lets just say don't go there. Have never made a claim from south essex so don't know about them, sorry.

Carriagehouse Insurance. Sadly I DID have to put it to the test, and they could hardly have kinder, more helpful, or more efficient. I had a cheque in my hands in less than a week after they had received the paperwork from the vet, and when I was subsequently sued, they acted at once to defend me, and of course, themselves. They are also very competitively priced.

E&L suck! NFU will only insure horse now if you insure a trailer or vehicle with them. I'm with Petplan now, so far so good - vet is also insured with them, which was what persuaded me to use them.

I am with Petplan, they aren't cheap but the one time I have had to claim they paid up straight away with not problems.

thanks everyone for that, i will have a look through a few websites and see which i think suits me best. Circusdancer- i don't own my own horse but i manage a sanctuary where we have 16 permanent residents who aren't insured as they all have bits and bats wrong with them so it wouldnt be cost effective, besides half of them are over 25 so not much chance of cheap insurance for them! We spend £100 a week on medications and vet bills which is never ending . We get asked to take in a lot of horses & many we have to turn down but i am taking on one personally cos i went to meet him and fell in love, thats why i need insurance just for him. Thanks everyone
