it does if you use the zone, watch your body language till it becomes second nature,im usually the one to fetch our lot in i cant do 10 sepratley,so when i have help i have to say where they should stand in order for them to remain in a group one wrong move or step they break away there attention from me to them and the whole thing goes pear shaped, horses are very intuative more than we give em credit for,

i think it's the most difficult thing to deal with, my high energy, in that, knowing it causes problems and why, doesn't make it go away. Have you tried yoga? It could help you to find that calm, still centre.

Is pair bonding not a sort of love? (Asking coz I dont have a clue). Guyand Elliott are pair bonds yet Elliott does not bother at leaving Guy even tho Guy screams and strops for him for up to an hour when we go away and is really pleased to see him when we come back. Guy also used to do this with a mare he was liveried with and still did it when he 'bumped' into her 5 yrs later? plus when i go away, even tho mum keeps to the same routine guy refuses to eat #(to the point of he scared the vet as he lost so much weight) and is fine when i get back? he can manage a week without me as long as i leave a worn top of mine in his stable. So whats going on there? (oooo a chance to over anaylise!)

You should have a conversation with rj about the high energy stuff as I think she worked on that herself quite a lot. I have to do the opposite. I'm naturally quiet with the horses and it is quite difficult for me to up my energy to get them out of my space if they are ignoring me. But, you can work on it in both directions. Checking out your breathing and making it slower is a good way to help bring down energy. Also deciding that you have all day for a job so doing it in 10 secs isn't important, and if you don't get to the stage you were planning to then it isn't the end of the world, just change the plan and get there the next day or the one after that or the one after that.

good verse - sort of relevant!
The centipeede was happy, thus, Until a frog, in fun, Said, Pray, which leg comes after which? This put his brain in such a pitch He lay, distracted, in a ditch, Figuring how to run.
Makes me smile!!!

Good one NN - yes, too much thinking is bad for us!! Only just come onto this thread from the dominance one where I wrote something similar to June. Yes, I found out so much about breathing and body language from Parelli/NH training, and it has been a revelation to me (OK loads of people knew it anyway, I'm just dim!). Then i have been taking Alexander Tech/Pilates classes for years and learnt the importance of breathing low down into your belly for core strength. It also mirrors your emotions. When you are quiet and serene your breathing will be slower and lower. When you are excited, scared or disturbed (or gotta cough like me) you breath high up in your chest, and faster. It immediately puts a horse on panic alert. So you just kid yourself (& your horse) into calm calm calm. Lots of long slow outbreaths (called sighing, but not with a 'tut' at the end!!!) and wait for your horse to copy you, They will every time. Stand close and make a big deep out breath, half close your eyes and relax. Horse will do big out-breath. If you are in a stressful situation, you will hold your breath & possibly stop blinking. Horse panic alert again. if YOU'RE worrried, he thinks, oh sh!t i'm off, it must be bad! So control your breathing, smile, and think happy thoughts. Everyone will think you're barmy, but who cares, your horse will be happier and have more confidence in the calmer more consistent you.

Yes RJ, that's how it started and then sherb gets into patterns very easily so each day after that he has got a bit worse, which has lead to me getting a bit worse and so on and so on. Everyone already thinks I'm mad I think!! I'm going to put an update on my PC thread tonight if anyone is interested. I'm just going to concentrate on my energy and approach everything from a quietly thoughtful angle. I wont be able to release and catch again because the area he is turned out in is massive and there aren't any lights so best I think to just bring him in. Update later on.

yes it is simple, keep in the zone,(soft eyes) you are in control, and tell him to bog off when he tells you to by kicking out, look for the licking and chewing , and the best place for shebs is with you,you in your space and he in his, sooner of later he will get the message,

i think the licking and chewing would be a sign he has his ass well and truly whipped in a manor of speaking, i dare say if your getting it right there will be a lot more to come,
