Hi have noticed a wierd hard lump in Gem's neck - about halfway down adjacent to his windpipe - doesnt seem to be giving him any trouble but TBH have never noticed it before! He is a "roarer" and wondered if that could be anything to do with it. Its about the size of a walnut. Anyone any ideas?

my pony had a lump on his neck, it was quite weird. i called the vet out but it didnt seem to cause him any trouble. the vet said it was a muscle deformity (the muscle had just grown a strange way) it would never go away. he said it was nothing to worry about. im not sure if thats the situation. if it feels like a part of the neck then it probably is but if it feels like a hard lump then probably get the vet out. i work at an equine vets and a horse came in with a lump the size of a football on the front of his neck. it was an infection so get him checked by a vet.

Could be an abscess esp if at/near vaccination site.

mines lump turned out to be an old fly bite that hadn't been treated in previous home, skin had gone hard and formed a mass. I brougth some vet only medicated shampoo.
