i have a welsh d filly rising 3 she was very insecure when i had her and wouldnt stable etc that is all fine and she and she now loves her stable and is now in at night. she has ad lib hay but eats no more than 2 flaps a night the same is if out, and now wears a rug at night. she is still growing and around 14.3 now and bum high but if she isnt eating she is galloping around the field squeeling and i am having trouble keeping weight on her. she was on high fiber cubes but i changed that to conditioning cubes 6 weeks ago and she has top spec supplement as well. just wondered what you would feed her? she cant have nuts unless soaked and not all feeds soak and no chaff as bolts feed and gets choke so i am limited as to what to feed her

Try simple system. All their feeds are soak-able, and they'll give great advice over the phone. All of my horses are fed on SS feeds.

Simple System is great - I use them, but you can use the same prinicples with other brands, its just the other brands aren't as "fair trade" or as molasses and preservative free, and you'll need to look around to get even close to their range. Top Spec can be best fed with straight forages rather than duplicating with a cube or mix - I would look at also using oil to make an energy dense feed that she can eat fairly quickly. So, TS as a base, then add a high DE beet like Speedibeet, a bit of alfalfa pellets, they'll soak quickly in any excess water in the beet, or indeed soak together, and then you could add something like linseed or even a pure oil to tget the calories into her. Always reduce when you reach target weight - keep up the TS though you can reduce to a half ration, though with a young growing horse I woudl chek with their feedline. Just reduce the energy part of the component - young horses are always better slightly under than slightly overweight.

i did have her on alfa beet last winter that is unmolassed sugar beet and alfa in pelet form that soaks but she seem to use all feeds including the high fiber feed she was on to gallop and looks like she has run a few laps of a race course so thought i would may be try to feed something else i cant feed top spec as they dont soak that why she has the supplement and i couldnt feed with just chaff as she would choke but will look in to simple systems as have heard good things about them, i would rather see her lean but she is a bit too lean at present although is bum high so going through another growth phase at present many thanks
