Eew, shudder, I can't even contemplate the thought of giving blood. I am severley needle-phobic and even the thought of it makes me feel sick and shaky. I have come to the conclusion that I would be far more trouble than I am worth for the poor nurses! Although I do think it's a really worthwhile and necessary thing to do, I just can't face doing it.

You want more, LisaM? How about Guardia (sp?)? That makes your burps taste like farts. That one I did get and it didn't make me popular...

To all those with rare blood groups who are feeling guilty because you can't give blood.... don't!!
As I said in my first post... they told me they weren't really interested in rare blood groups as there isn't much call for it (which is logical if you think about it). So don't feel guilty.
If you REALLY want to do something to help, how about registering yourself as a bone marrow doner? I was on the list for years, but after the age of 40, you have to come off. Sadly, I am now well over 40. lol

Since finding out, many years ago in Mombasa, that I have the O Rh -ve blood that they give to babies I always donate when I can.
I think it is a worhtwhile thing to do and will keep going as long as they will keep taking it out of my arm!
Good luck to those that do, you never know you might need it yourself one day!

O neg is really sought after as it can be given to anyone, whatever blood group, and is especially useful in an emergency when the patient's blood group is not known.
I used to give blood, then had to go on some medication for the past year. I've just come off it, so in 11 months time I'll be free to give blood again.
