if you were to buy a young horse

im not going to vote, it does rather depend on the horse/pony and more to the point the person who has handled it, i think id maybe id go for just halter boken, all of ours to date have been compete and utter nutcases, who seem to be much more giving once the penny drops, ,,, ill vote h;lter broken then,

I voted lightly backed, but as long as the work has been done properly to date and the horse is progressing as I would like. Otherwise I'd rather do all the work myself than have to spend time undoing someone else's poor training.

I went for lightly backed as that was Flynn when I bought him as a 4 yo.

when i brought Nochero he was halter broken, and learning to lead in hand. Had just started work on his feet etc. Would def do it again, it's been so much fun and we are still learning and teaching each other.

anything! i already have a young horse who was unschooled and green but broken and working well, jumped etc. she was 6 at the time. around 7 now. i bought her for my riding horse, not a project. didn't know how green she was until i got her really. I would have anything though!!

lightly backed for me. Too old now for chewing dirt, but still enjoy bringing youngster on - Nessie was only just 5 (now 7) and walked like a rubber, bendy toy when I first got her.

Having said that it would depend on what I wanted the horse for. H was intended as a companion and a driving pony eventually so being wild short term was OK (and extremely interesting too). But I wouldn't have taken on anything older and bigger with her background and temprament--she's only 10hh or so and a monster.

On the other hand if I lived in the States I'd probably be in the process of adopting a mustang by now!!!

I cant vote coz i find them all suitable! depends on the horse and how much time/commitment I had at the time.
last summer I bought a yearling sec A well handled, he leads, grooms etc but theres still loads to do. Hed been very well handled so has no hang ups nor fear :-) however, I'd rather have a completely unhandled youngster than one which had been badly done/treated if there was only that choice. hope this helps.
