i was just about to get on Otto this morning when there was a huge *ping* and when i looked at his girth (one with elastic ends) one of the elastics had snapped . i noticed on christmas eve that it was starting to fray..only slightly .. and thought that i really needed to go and get a new one! but didnt think it would break that quickly! so quick note every1! cheack your tack! so glad that i was about to get on and not galloping across a field when it happened!

Blimy, can't believe they snapped that quickly! what do people think about the girths with just one bit of elastic in the middle? *touch wood* nothing has broken while I've been on board. But i know someone who was flat out during XC when her new Stuuben bridle snapped scary!

Lol, sophie!!
just a bit gailt.... tried to get the horse (her name was Heidi) to slow down using one rein, but being one-sided, she merely turned her head and carried on.... I had a group of people behind me, somewone was yelling stop, and i yelled back, " i can't"!!!! it all worked out!! had a look at the rein, and it was rotten, could have gone at any time!!

When I was 17 I rode a girlfriends horse over some jumps. I noticed she was waving frantically at me so I stopped. The girth had snapped off and was dangling under the mare's belly. Being a hero I whipped the saddle off and carried on over the jumps. She was well impressed.

I was riding my little one once, tapped her on the bum with my schooling whip, she bucked and girth snapped, i carried on trotting along until i noticed something hanging down by her legs

Phew lucky escape Sophie. let that be a lesson to all of us to check our tack regularly. I know I don't check it anywhere near enough.
Glad you are ok :-)
