Wendy, I'm really sorry to hear Lutine got it too. This is scary especially she didn't test positive! How are the other two? Did you manage to get their flare-ups under control? At least you'll know what to do with Lutine then.

Thanks everyone. I had phoned the vet at 7.30pm last night after I saw Lutine's pupil all contracted in the dark - it's a husband and wife team and the husband is the equine specialist. Spoke to his wife as he was still out, far away, seeing horses. He phoned me back about 9.30pm when he got back. He was absolutely flummoxed. He kept saying 'this is bizarre. I don't understand this'. Anyway, he confirmed that we should start the atropine straight away and make sure her pupils are well dilated and today he's going to get on the phone to some colleagues to go through what else this could be caused by, what else it could be etc. I've to phone him back late this afternoon. Lutine tested absolutely negative for leptospirosis only three weeks ago or so, so to now come down with uveitis in the same way as Crystal and Mascagne is - well - bizarre. And a total bummer to boot.
The good news is that just a couple of drops of 1% atropine seemed to pull her iris right back so that pupil was well dilated. And I have just about every alternative supplement you could imagine that has been used to treat chronic uveitis, so she can start on those straight away too.
Thanks again everyone. I am sure that the love and positive thoughts do help.
Crystal and Mascagne are in a 'quiet period' at the moment. Crystal's right eye is getting the wrinkle effect over her cornea though, which means the eye has lost pressure owing to the uveitis killing off liquid producing cells in her eye. But the vet tells me you can either have hypertension (ie glaucoma) or hypotension in the eye as a result of uveitis, and of the two, hypotension is the least devastating. It's a funny thing to be thankful for....

just been reading captain horace hayes to find out what this is as I know nothing about it(other than reading your last thread) I couldnt find leptospirosis but did read about uvietis and it sounds awful,if not a little freakish that this has happened to 3 of your horses now. My thoughts are with you and your poor horses and I hope they get well and you get some good news soon. (((((((hugs))))))))

It's like a terrible recurring nightmare Wendy. I just don't know how you're keeping your spirits up to be honest!
If only they could make some sort of breakthrough! Well, I'll keep everything crossed that they do, anyway.
(((Hugs))) and Jayne sends her love too. xxx
