thescotsman.scotsman.com/scitech.cfm?id=1787912005Fears cats are being skinned to train badger-baiting dogs RHIANNON EDWARD THE animal welfare charity SSPCA is investigating concerns that cats are being caught and skinned to train dogs for badger baiting, it emerged yesterday. The fears were raised after a report that a cat was found without its skin dumped on the Boghead Nature Reserve in West Lothian. The SSPCA is also looking into claims that another skinned cat was found in the area and that an increasing number of cats have been going missing. Doreen Graham, an SSPCA spokeswoman, said cat pelts were known to be used while training dogs for illegal badger-baiting events. "Some people are just plain bad but there could be a disturbed person involved here, so it is a very serious situation," she said. "There is somebody out there who needs to be stopped." The SSPCA has also received reports that cats and ducklings have been beheaded and otherwise mutilated. The organisation appealed for anyone with information to come forward and for the public to remain vigilant
