How long does it take to get a passport through now?
Can you still go the the passporting office (where is it?) and sit and wait for it? How long does that take?

In theory if you send off it should take 2 weeks but i have yet to recieve anything within a month!
There are several passport offices that you can go to. I have been to the london one and found it very efficient. You call for an appointment and you can usually get them very quickly at a time to suit you. They stamp everything there and then for you and approve everything and its in the post immediately. We got ours this way and had them within 3 days.

We had my daughters back within a week, but that was just a renewal. I paid £7 at the post office for their 'check & send service'. You can go to the passport offices but you have to make an appointment, you cant just turn up anymore. Also its quite expensive I think.

When we renewed passports recently they were back within a week, but it does fluctuate depending on how busy the Passport Office is. I seem to remember there were several options for speed of service - obviously the faster they process them the more expensive it is!
Have a look on their website - I got loads of information from there.
