I have been accused of being one myself , but seriously, I strained the muscles in my neck last night moving boxes while stepping over other boxes. I was rushing around as I'm in the middle of a house move, trying to organise a yard move and catch up with all my customers. I didn't think much about the strain at the time, but last night it kept waking me up it was so painful and today I can't move my neck without severe pain. Any ideas - I'm taking Ibuprofen and resting it at the moment, but it's so frustrating not being able to drive/lift etc. My parents don't think it's worth going to the GP as he'll only recommend what I'm doing already ...

I suggest you go and visit an osteopath or chiropracteur etc if it hasn't improved after a couple of days.

Try putting some muscle rub on it, keep it warm-maybe with a scarf and try holding a hot water bottle against it, this should ease the pain a bit.

Ouch, the best thing you can do is keep it warm and supported, try a scarf and using a hot water bottle and hot baths and keep up with the ibuprofen. If it is really painful or lasts more thatn a couple of days go to the doctors, they might be able to get you one of one of those neck collar thingies they are great (although they make you look like a bit of a clown) cos they take the strain of holding your head up so you can still get about. Or try resting it by holding your head up with your hands (again you might look a little stupid but it does help). I had a really crap neck when I was younger and all my muscles used to go into spasm at the slightest strain so I totally sympathise.

osteopath  - thats the best idea
take away the muscle spasm - then it can start healing itself nicely

Thanks everyone, it's starting to feel a little better now. I will still visit an osteo or chiro as I can feel it spasming even though I'm still on the Ibuprofen. Ruby, I'm doing the "holding head" thing right now and it does help Lucymj, ;D ... I'm lucky and dispensed with my mother-in-law several years ago - through divorce not other foul means though! Although my parents are giving me grief at the moment ... who do I divorce to get rid of them!!?!

LOL at those comments Nix!
Hope you are soon feeling better - I did this several months ago, and seriously could not look over my shoulder to reverse anywhere in the car! Really painful.

Get yourself one of those hot wheat bags that you warm up in the microwave, mine is a god send when I get an achy neck!
Then definitely off to physio/chiro/osteo and get it fixed.

Hi, my serious neck problem which I had for 5 months until I got it sorted was agonizing but reflexology sort it out in two sessions. I would opt for chiropractic first to diagnose what's happening then get reflexology and alternate the two. I had such success with reflexology that I went on to train and worked with patients for 10 years - it's a brialliant treatment - try it and see for yourself.
