my rottie bella had 10 pups on monday and everything seemed fine but two days ago she had a massive allergic reaction to something and her face, paws everything swelled up we took her to the vets and she was given two injections the vet said the anti-inflammatry will dry up her milk within 3 days has anyone had any experience of hand feeding pups as we are okay just now but i am keeping an eye on their weight and checking her milk is coming through but they will have to be fed every 4 hrs (argghhh)

:-/Just keep everything you use scrupulously clean and give little and often ( I would expect to be feeding puppies this young every twoto three hours minimum :-0 ) . Mum Rottie will do the rest for them. I would imagine that they will still try to suckle her as we get that happening here when we take in very young pups from horse fairs, our rottie will let them suckle though she is bone dry herself never having had puppies!I hope they dow ell adn that 'mum' is now feeling better too emw x ;D

checked puppies this morning all are fine mum is still producing milk and all puppies are even weight, bella is a lot better she is on chicken and rice at the mo (hubby dissappointed he could smell chicken cooking but had to do with a sandwich) and we can introduce her food gradually. we have got a camera fitted to check her progress 24/7. the vet has advised us to feed the mum the puppy milk powder as a supplement as well

You will be better off buying a sack of milk.SCA is good as it can be used for all animals. That way if she dries up or you need to suppliment you have the stuff there.

everything is going great (fingers crossed) bellas milk is still coming through and i have to keep a daily check on their weight we have two little ones who i am supplementing at the moment, but bella is such a good mum, i am now having sleepless nights about making sure they go to the right homes. max the daddy is now so bored that he now follows our rabbit (it is the size of a small dog) desperate to play (he is petrified of the guinea pigs as he climbed into their pen as a puppy and got bit. I will post some pics after i work out how to do it
