Hello! I just thought I'd give myself a quick introduction
I'm a British transplant living in Switzerland. Last year I bought my first horse: Pinto, an 11yo, 14.3, bay tobi, Percheron x. He had been in his previous home for 7 years, and had done nothing but hacking, so he's a little on the green side when it comes to schooling.
He has the most fantastic temprement, which is great for a novice owner; but he does have his quirks too. He has an indentation in his forehead about 3/4 of an inch across by 1/2 an inch deep, where the farrier hit him with a hammer when he was getting hist first set of shoes on as a baby Fortunately this hasn't seemed to affect him, and he is great with having his feet handled, and loves his current farrier.
He is terrified of whips, however, and of raised voices, and of flapping ropes (but only if they are held by someone ). He is difficult to catch... actually he is nigh on impossible to catch at the moment, but because he is is scared, not because he is being difficult or "malicious". We've also had a couple of fun episodes in the manege; once when we were free schooling and he decided he didn't want to know me, got himself into a right state before being 'rescued' by my friend, who I had to call at 10pm on a Sunday night to help me out. And another time when he were doing regular lunging he pulled away from me (taking 3 layers off my leather roping gloves) and wouldn't be caught again until a complete stranger came into the manege.
Despite his almost schizophrenic like reactions to certain stimuli (and I still haven't figured out what can make him 'flip') I love him to bits, and I'm determined that. over time, we can sort hese irrationalities out.
He is a sweetheart to ride, though because I'm only a novice rider myself, I have a friend ride him for me too, as she is a much better rider than I am (and a lot more confident).
So after all that waffle ;D meet Pinto (but please excuse the scruffiness of my pony lol)
... I hope this isn't too big
